Small is Beautiful
Review of ThinkPad X40 2371 - Pentium M 738 1.4 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
marmalade47
Advantages: Small Lightweight, Feature-packed, Durable, Good Software
Disadvantages: No Optical Drive, Smaller Screen, Price
I have owned my X40 for nearly a year now and at the time is was the top of the range - even now, only the processors have got faster (with a shorter battery life). I love it to bits! It is light, impressive, powerful (I do MS Visual Studio .NET on mine with no probs), long battery life - around 3.5hrs on the extended battery despite what is quoted. The display is a little small and lacking in resolution but once docked that ceases to be a real problem ... ...software utilites which comes as standard - Rescue and Recovery, Access Connecitons (for seemless mobility and connectivity), the new Lenovo Software Update tool which is sooooo brilliant and keeping all the hardware, BIOS etc up to date even for thickies like me.
All in all it does exactly what it says on the tin and to be honest the aftercare is better with Lenovo than its ever been. The lack of an optical drive is no great shakes but at least ...

Thinking of a Thinkpad?
Review of ThinkPad T40p 2373 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
nattinoo1970
Advantages: Light, flat and compact
Disadvantages: Being Black
...job I was given a Thinkpad T43. I found it incredibly easy to use, and as I was splitting my time between the office and home was having to carry it around with me.
After months of using the laptop my desktop PC at home died and I decided to try and replace it with a Thinkpad. Because I was on a restricted budget and couldn't afford a new laptop I decided to see what was available second-hand. I was overjoyed to find a company on ebay that sells ... ...ago. So I now have 2 laptops to use - 1 for work and 1 for personal use.
The Thinkpads are light for a laptop, very flat (a lot flatter than some of the newer compact laptops currently available) and easy to use. Being Black, I find they show marks very easily (finger marks, dust etc (although because they show this could be an advantage as it means I probably care for mine more often by giving it a wipe over than I would if the marks didn't show!)

HP DV6599 Special Edition - Good All Rounder
Review of HP Pavilion Media Center dv6599ea Special Edition Entertainment - Core 2 Duo T7300 2 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
marcus997
Advantages: Features, size and design
Disadvantages: Not good enough for gaming
...me. As a fan of HP products, I chose from the DV6500 range available at the time. This laptop had every spec I required for both using as a station for university assignments, as well as home use for music, film and gaming.
Firstly, the design is eye-catching. I was bored of looking at the generic black or grey and thought the white anti-scratch surface was ideal. The laptop is also quite light and the absense of a locking clip meant there was less ... ...more than my money's worth! HP also frequently offer discounts so it's always worth checking to see what deals are to be had.
As well as the remote control that is stored away when not in use, another of my favourite features is the fingerprint reader. When you use the internet on a frequent basis, remembering usernames and passwords can be frustrating. For anyone who hops from website to website, I'd highly recommend this feature.
Thankfully I ...

Does an excellent job for most day to day tasks
Review of Toshiba Equium A200-26D - Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
s32bauer
Advantages: Good looks, most basic equipment you would need, able to handle most programs
Disadvantages: Not suitable for games, some aspects feel cheap
...However, I will warn that Toshiba have placed quite a lot of branding on the software. The Toshiba wallpaper is easy to get rid of, but there are numerous 'memory eating' programs that Toshiba claim to help your laptop - they do nothing worthwhile. Certainly nothing that Windows can't do better. Separate programs for controlling the touch pad aren't required, and uninstalling all of this non-essential software frees up storage space and memory.
... ...ethernet port for my internet, and have had no issues with either. The ethernet is very straight forward plug and play, and connects to your ISP in seconds.
The display is extremely crisp and sharp, and the brightness can be changed to suite your needs (and energy consumption). On the subject of energy consumption, this laptop isn't too bad compared to some I have used. I can run my laptop in high performance mode using wireless LAN for internet, ...

Acceptable Toshiba.
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 by
AmenTeen
Advantages: Speed, comfortabe, cheap.
Disadvantages: No webcam built-in.
The Toshiba brand has always been noted with mass gratitude for solid and robust piece-of-art laptops and particularity, the Satellite Pro A200 is not an odd exception, not a disappointment.
The Satellite Pro offers Intel new processor technology as far as concerned. This advantage gives the user open options for use of softwares and applications compatible with the new technology of duo-core. Still the duo-core processors are robust, at least 1.5GHZ ... ...users.
This notebook has its Toshiba manufactured hard disk, well known for being solid and long life.
The design of coated screen is classic and gives a great look with the new windows vista interface. The touchpad is just a tad too small given all the unutilised space above the keyboard where the speakers and quick launch buttons live.
The left hand side of the chassis houses your video options with VGA and S-Video out, Ethernet port, two USB ...
