A bargain?
Review of Acer Aspire 1300X - Athlon XP 1400+ 1.2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
cheffie1
Advantages: Compact, value for money
Disadvantages: no USB ports for mouse etc!
Had never heard of the Acer brand before but as the laptop was on special offer in shop and appeared to be a bargain, we gritted our teeth and went ahead. Over the first few weeks after purchase we realised that the laptop has no USB ports or ports for mouse etc so you have to use the touch pad, like it or not. However for a basic, home use laptop for the average user it does what it needs to do! Would not recommend this model for any business use ...

Acer Aspire 3003LC - Mobile Sempron 3000+ 1.8 GHz - 15" TFT
Other than the word "Acer" I bet the newbie buyer hasn't got a clue what the rest of the above means. In fact trudging round Currys, Comet and PC World looking for a laptop, the descriptions may as well have been in ancient Greek. The fact is that, other than the price, there is almost no understandable information available from manufacturers and retailers. Shop assistants, if and when ... ...recommendation.
At home the Acer started first time and Windows Vista was welcoming and straight forward to set up. In fact we expected to have to load discs but this has now been done away with. In fact the whole experience was painless. I guess there are two points here. 1. Like a car, if you don't know much about mechanics, your choice becomes one based on looks and mention of "0 to 60 in 10" must mean it's good. So with the Acer. "Sempron3000" ...

danfellowes
Advantages: Practical
Disadvantages: Improveable
This is the Acer Aspire 3613WLMi laptop computer. Stats it gives on the actual laptop seem like a good place to start:
Intel Celeron M Processor 370
(1.5GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache)
15.4" WXGA CrystalBrite TFT LCD
40GB
DVD-Dual double layer
(Supports DVD+R Double layer/ DVD+/-RW)
512MB DDR2 (support dual-channel)
802.11 b/g wireless LAN
Right so the laptop itself is pretty decent even if a little dated by now. It runs fine and at a decent ... ...Here's a list of Acer bonusses again listed on the laptop:
Acer SignalUp: High-efficiency antenna technology
Wi-Fi b/g: Wireless Protocols compliant
Acer Arcade: Comprehensive multimedia suite
Acer Gridvista: Multi-screen solution
4 times faster than traditional PCI
Acer Arcade
This allows you to watch DVDs; view and edit photgraphs; watch and edit videos; listen to music on your computer and burn music to CDs or movies to DVDs.

Good basic laptop
Review of Acer TravelMate 2303LCi - Celeron M 340 1.5 GHz - 15" TFT by
Tegteg
Advantages: Does basic tasks well
Disadvantages: Limited expansion ports
I bought the Acer TravelMate 2303LC in Nov 2004, which is the same as this model but only has a 30GB HD. I purchased from Comet for £500 with £50 free vouchers at the time.
This is the first laptop I have owned, usually having desktops or borrowed work laptops, and was impressed with how small and light it is. Previous laptops I have used have been quite thick and clunky but this very small and thin. I can use it on my lap quite easily and is well ... ...most basic and cheapest Acer model so it is no surprise. It only has 3 USB slots, one PC card slot, modem and network slot. No floppy drive, no TV-out (monitor out though), no IR, no Wi-Fi. Once I added in niceties that I didn't think I needed you start running out of USB ports. If you want these things then maybe look further up the range. The battery life is also short at just over an hour.
Overall it does 99% of what I want and have had no problems. ...

Acer TM202 - An Excellent if Basic Workstation
Review of Acer TravelMate 202T - C 650 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
tomhughes
Advantages: Cheap, Compact, Basic Workstation
Disadvantages: Poor spec, small screen, ME not XP.
INTRODUCTION
I've used Acer Travelmate T202t notbooks in conjunction with my work for several years now. They were excellent value when purchased, but have obviously now been well surpassed in terms of spec. However, hopefully this review will give you some idea of the lifespan and use of these computers, and maybe you'd be able to pick one up on the cheap (I see similar models going for £100-200 on eBay which is a bargain!).
SPECIFICATIONS
Processor: ... ...ERGONOMICS
Compared to other Acer laptops I've used, this one feels pretty solid. It's made of black plastic which is quite roughly textured, looks rather dated these days but who cares really. It is still a small unit even compared to modern units, this is probably due to the low spec and small screen but does make the laptop very nice and portable, it's not like lugging a sack of bricks around when you want to carry it. When closed, the Acer ...
