BenQ - The new Sony
Review of BenQ Joybook 5000 - Pentium M 1.4 GHz - 14.1" TFT by nanoblade

Advantages: Looks good, Fast, Cheap, Great graphics
Disadvantages: Flimsy feel, not enough RAM

...months ago? Well I hadn’t. BenQ are new to Europe although they are well established in the Middle East. If you hadn’t heard of them before Euro 2004 you must do now! When I saw this laptop for an insanely low price a few months ago I was a little skeptical, but after days of research I couldn’t find anything to compete with it, and became more confident about BenQs reputation. So I went ahead and bought it, and I can honestly say ...
...at, most people say it looks more like a mac than a PC which is a good thing! Since using Centrino I will never ever again buy a P4 laptop, and since using BenQ laptops I will never switch to another manufacturer except for Sony and Apple of course :-) ... Read review

Putting the Joy back into notebooks
Review of BenQ Joybook 8000 - P4-M 2.4 GHz - 15.2" TFT by Erinath

Advantages: Stylish, fast, packed full of features
Disadvantages: Short battery life, heats up quickly

...buy, I happened upon the BenQ JoyBook 8000 second hand & can't believe how packed with features it is. Appearance With a brushed steel effect cover & the Q Media buttons on the front, the JoyBook 8000 really is a classically stylish machine. The keyboard is very slightly translucent with deep blusih-grey keys, whilst there is a brass coloured strip around the edge of the case to stop it from looking too surgical. Screen Resolution & Clarity Despite ...
...is a sharp & crisp 15.2" TFT active matrix widescreen, allowing for a startling clear picture. Connectivity I was astonished by the number of ports on this: 4 USB, 2 firewire (IEEE 1394), ethernet, modem, S-video out, RCA connector, parallel port, VGA & a PC card slot. In addition to this it boasts wireless connectivity and a dual drive (CD-RW & DVD Ease of use The front of the laptop offers a "Q Media Bar" which allows you to switch on music ... Read review

Benq Joybook Review
Review of BenQ Joybook 5000U - Pentium M 1.4 GHz - 14.1" TFT by chappy81

Advantages: Battery Life, Portability, Performance
Disadvantages: Could be zippier

...light PC to carry around. Benq is even kind enough to include a simple Polypropene (Think Wetsuit material) Slim Case for a little extra protection on the road. The included software is excellent, Windows XP Professional, NTI-CD Maker, Cyberlink DVD Viewer and maker, and Ulead Photo software. There is also some proprietary Q-music, and Q-Media software which help utilise hot keys and provide a worthy alternative to the windows media suite. A truly ... Read review

Good solid business laptop
Review of Dell Vostro 1500 by supermushroom

Advantages: Cheap, mean little machine
Disadvantages: Heavy, non-linux compatable

...just the best buy and Dell are known to be a respectable no frills brand which helped. It's worth noting that my Dell came with a lot of bundled software, slowing it down slightly. It was a litttle trouble to format a new laptop and install the drivers again, but the machine has been satisfactory ever since! The ram seems to work well, the hardware (bluetooth, wireless, DVD, Webcam etc) are top quality and are well integrated to work with each other. ...
...fully linux compatable yet, since i tried booting it up with Kubuntu, and unsuccessfully tried to get all the hardware to work for 4 months. It was okay though, just double check if you plan to use linux (you're better off going for a linux-ready dell). Also, it's meant for small businesses which means it's a little heavy and not the best machine for you to lug it around everywhere (especially if you're a student!). Having said that, i don't have ... Read review

Dell Latitude D830
Review of Dell Latitude D830 by lillilmike

Advantages: Security, Speed, Easy to travel with.
Disadvantages: Once some settings are change theres no going back.

I own this Dell Latitude D830 it is a very fast, very reliable piece of equipment. It has dual core so its pretty good for gaming also with a very good video card. I wouldn't recommend it for the highest newest games but its very good to get you playing some of the recent games. It runs all sorts of O.S. so thats a plus. Compatible with most software. It can hold up to 4 gigs of ram. Easy lite weight, goof for the average business man and or student. ...
...items. Comes with some good dell utilities too. Such as blue tooth, secure storage, embassy security, and also my favorite a TRACKER. So if it is ever lost or stolen you can call tell and they can track it down. So all in all its a very good piece of equipment. I recommend it ! ... Read review
