Dell XPS M1530 laptop
Review of Dell XPS M1530 by
ilaskey
Advantages: Great feature set, fast, GFX card, HDMI out
Disadvantages: keyboard/touchpad could be better
...motherboard failure on my existing Dell Inspiron laptop and given its age, repair looked a bad move as one could buy a new laptop for less. However, once I decided to see what was available and given my two main criteria - a higher than usual resolution screen and three year warranty, I suddenly found the price spiraling upwards. After much searching I settled on an XPS M1530. The price on the Dell web site was around £1000 but a phone call to Dell ... ...blue lid and nice chromed Dell logo and the body looks smart but not overly flashy with its brushed aluminium and black plastic plus blue lights. The grill over the speaker does seem to attract bits of dust and dirt and needs a quick brush now and then to avoid it looking like you've just eaten your lunch on it (which to be fair is pretty much what is causing the bits) but apart from that the M1530 looks the part.
The XPS M1530 comes with a fingerprint ...

Value for Money laptop
Review of Dell Inspiron 1720 by
tabigarasu
Advantages: The perfect budget laptop
Disadvantages: Looks like a dell.
...I was skeptical of a Dell laptop, but after seeing the Inspiron 1720 I was impressed by its features, especially comparative to the price. If you are looking for a highly functional laptop on a budget, this is certainly the avenue to be looking down. So, here's my computer-studdent-wisdom breakdown:
Screen: The screen is better than expected for a laptop in terms of brightness (which can be adjusted easily) and size. It's nice!
Keyboard: Despite ... ...main drawback is it's sound quality isn't fantastic, but certainly not substandard.
Integrated microphone: Again not fantastic, but not substandard.
Value for money: Definitely value for money, especially if you can get it on a special offer-which Dell seem to do rather a few of for this series! ...

The Dell Vostro 1000
Review of Dell Vostro 1000 by
Chuckles1987
Advantages: price, durability, look, speed, memory
Disadvantages: N/A
I bought the Dell Vostro 1000 for starting a Degree last september. The Vostro 1000 is marketed at businesses and as such is installed with Windows Vista Business. The laptop came with 2GB of RAM which is ample to run vista comfortably.
The fact that the laptop is marketed for businesses has made no difference to me. In fact it has probably helped me with my degreee as it doesn't come with all the extra unnecessary rubbish that others do (e.g. solitaire, ... ...2007 package, etc.
The Dell Vostro 1000 is amazing quality for money and I would thoroughly recommend it, expecially for anyone on a limited budget. The battery once charged does not last for ages but it is not too bad at all; as with most laptops there is a selction of performance modes which can prolong battery. It Vostro is very resilliant; and has survived a few knocks without any trauma.
I am very happy that I have the Vostro 1000, it is a ...

Inspiring inspiron
Review of Dell Inspiron 1525 by
sparkle_gremlin
Advantages: options for build
Disadvantages: battery lead location
I recently purchased this laptop and so far so good. I previously had a inspiron 6400 and can say that the improvements are really good. The touchpad is great and as other have mentioned the LEDS really do add to the appearance in of the laptop. I went for the standard black matt cover as i wanted more from the performance side than the pretty-ness factor. That being said this laptop seems to succeed in both. I decided to add the integrated webcam ... ...is much more than i expected and the program it comes with is easy to use. It is definately thinner than my last laptop but not as thin as some new ones coming out, although I think some can feel too flimsy, this is a perfect size and weight. The battery plugs into the side unlike previous models which can be a bit awkward at times. ...

A great, fully featured notebook for home
Review of Dell Inspiron 1520 by
droony
Advantages: Huge performance, cool design, big graphics, GOOD screen
Disadvantages: lid catch could be better, doesn't feel prperly closed.
This is a very feature packed notebook for the money, I have owned mine for approx 4 weeks now and I am still amazed at it performance, it's just so quick. The model I bought come with the Core Duo 2 7250, 2GB ram, 8600M GT graphics (256MB dedicated) and 250GB hard drive. Love the different coloured lids you can choose from, I went for the green, which actually suits it as it is not too bright and has a slight rubbery feel to it. If I had to pick ...
