Top Marks for Top Spec Sony SZ
Review of Sony VAIO SZ61WN/C - Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 GHz - 13.3" TFT by sourcez

Advantages: Build quality, speed and screen
Disadvantages: Not so great graphics, No DVI

...look at. * Vista + Sony = BAD. * No media buttons? *No DVI-D interface. Still uses dated VGA. * The built in memory card reader only supports Sony Memory Stick Duo and Pro Duo now (although there's a plus too) * Sony only put a 64MB 8400M GS in it; so below par graphics. A break-down Just going to go over everything I've thought of in the three months I've had this laptop using the ciao criteria: Speed This Vaio is fast. It's ...
...Windows Vista Home Premium. No Sony crap other than the utilities (without them the buttons won't work) and I've now got much more free memory. Sony also support Windows XP Professional and I considered changing to that; but they mention that some of the laptop's features won't work fully - including hard drive protection. That would put anyone who wants to use the laptop out without the HDD protection, which you might as well have! The Hybrid Hard ... Read review

ACER ASPIRE 5315
Review of Acer Aspire 5315-051G12Mi - Celeron M 530 1.73 GHz - 15.4" TFT by Art007

Advantages: Reliable, affordable, easy to use, 15.4" screen. 80GB hard drive.
Disadvantages: Poor mouse keypad. (aren't they all like that?)

I have one and it is much better than any PC I have used. Mainly because of it's practicality. I can go 600 miles away with my broadband dongel and use it without any problems. I find it light, extremely reliable. I did choose the basic Windows package as I have no need for all the pointless extras and the Celeron works well. Fully charged my battery lasts about 2 hours without power. It's 15.4" Screen is a perfect size. Make sure you clear your ...
...any computer. I bought it in June 2008 for £270, very good. It has three USB Inputs, I would recommend a mouse with it as the mouse keypad is poor, though I haven't found a laptop with a good one yet. It is easy to use, very user friendly and providing you don't completely fill the hard drive it is quick. ... Read review

Macbook - best buy!!
Review of Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 13.3" TFT by gem_123

Advantages: quick, reliable, small and easy to use.
Disadvantages: battery life not as long as would be preferred.

Definitely an excellent buy!! I've recently started uni and this macbook was my first investment. All classmates have them and they are unmistakably the preferred choice to an ordinary pc. Slightly different to how a normal pc functions but quick and easy to get used to. I haven't had any problems and have loved it since the day i bought it. Its fast, reliable, small and easy to slot in your bag and take with you and lets face it, it definitely looks ... Read review

Excellent budget laptop
Review of Acer Aspire 5315-051G12Mi - Celeron M 530 1.73 GHz - 15.4" TFT by magenta1234

Advantages: Price, look, reliability
Disadvantages: Memory size, but adequate for basic users

I got my Acer Aspire 5315 as the freebie laptop when I signed up for mobile broadband at the Carphone Warehouse. I knew if there was no extra cost for it it would be a lower end of the market machine, which it is, however I'm pleasantly surprised. It's not a machine which has a huge capacity, 1GB and 80GB hard drive, but for users like me who just want to store a few current documents and photos and surf the net it's more than adeqaute. The 15.4" ...
...and the laptop is as pretty as any closed, if a little cheaper looking on the inside. Mine has been running without any hitches and start up time is excellent. A few minor quirks to get used to... the touch sensitve mouse pad is quite rough to the touch and a little jerky and the disc drawer is a stubborn old thing, you need to slam it closed. Not a bad under £300 buy. You get what you pay for as far as the spec goes but if you want a reliable little ... Read review
