A bargain?
Review of Acer Aspire 1300X - Athlon XP 1400+ 1.2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
cheffie1
Advantages: Compact, value for money
Disadvantages: no USB ports for mouse etc!
Had never heard of the Acer brand before but as the laptop was on special offer in shop and appeared to be a bargain, we gritted our teeth and went ahead. Over the first few weeks after purchase we realised that the laptop has no USB ports or ports for mouse etc so you have to use the touch pad, like it or not. However for a basic, home use laptop for the average user it does what it needs to do! Would not recommend this model for any business use ...

Cheep and cheerful
Review of HP 510 - Celeron M 360 1.4 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
Dazzlin_uk
Advantages: Cheep laptop, resonable quality
Disadvantages: Spend a little more, get a faster laptop
I have been using this laptop for a couple of months and I think, for the money, this is an exceptional piece of equipment. My couple of gripes are long charging time, the right mouse button feels loose, it now takes a very long time to boot up (it was fine new and I have not added much software) and a very limiting hard drive. Also, this unit comes with 512mb ram but can only be upgraded to a max 1gb and uses special ram chips that need to be ordered ...

HP Laptop - Good Notebook for small businesses
Review of HP Compaq Business Notebook 6715s - Turion 64 X2 TL-58 1.9 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
dickmaister
Advantages: quick, value for money
Disadvantages: not the best looking, no special add ons (no built in webcam etc.)
I was given this laptop a few days ago...with Windows vista. I have had experience with vista so it was not that hard to get used to. However this was vista business so it did not come with the windows games which you are used to. With a dual core 1.9Ghz processor, this machine is quick...ideal for all your business needs. For personal use it is also great for games such as Football Manager 2008 and so good it can cope with games such as the Sims. ... ...as Inkball is such a great game. It can play DVDs with built in Intervid dvd watching Kingdom of Heaven on it just today. I recommend this for small businesses and for those who do not mind losing out to minesweeper solitaire hearts and the likes. Great Battery time...not the best looking but good value for money ...

For those of you that are not aware of the term 'tablet PC'. It refers to a laptop where you can turn the screen and place it flat on the keyboard with the screen face-up. A Serious waste of energy.
Review of Gateway M6824 by
demonbarak
Advantages: Well specced
Disadvantages: wrong OS for machine, poor layout
Ok, So, I needed a cheap laptop to do while my computer was being reworked. And what a mistake this one turned out to be!
Its slow, unreliable, difficult to type on.... but let me explain.
I paid over three hundred pounds for this machine. And in all honesty, thirty would have been overpaying.
Features wise its not too bad - wireless, decent quality screen, good keyboard action.
Unfortunately, this is more than offset by the little niggles. Vista ... ...cope absolutely fine with XP, but Vista hogs so much of its meagre gig of memory that nothing runs fullspeed. Its not compatable with so many of the programs and games I know and love... the list of niggles with vista is endless.
The layout - Oh dear god, but whoever designed this machine clearly did not use their brain! You physically cannot type without knocking the mousepad, which flips you out of the program you're typing into and causes havoc. ...
