Good performance, Pig awful looks!!
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad R61 7732 - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
cindyhigham
Advantages: Fast and reliable
Disadvantages: Screen could be better, not the best design
...world of insurance Toshiba and Lenovo are spelt the same?). Needless to say the chances of me renewing my policy with them are somewhere between sweet FA and Nil.
However rant and rage over with here are my opinions and observations of the R61 thinkpad.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
-------------------------------
When I first opened the box, my first impression was "Oh my god!, it's come from the Lada car factory. The design has all the finesse of a 1980's ... ...name around, I had not linked it to the IBM brand. However as soon as you look the laptop, it is instantly recognisable as an IBM Thinkpad. Sadly though not in a good way, The keyboard and general layout do look very dated.
The only plus point here is that it does seem to be very well built and sturdy enough to take the odd few knocks and scrapes.
SPECIFICATIONS
--------------------------
Thankfully the performance of the laptop is far better ...

Cracking ultra-portable laptop for under a grand
Review of Samsung Q45 LXD T7100 - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
sadoldbag
Advantages: Fast, great spec, looks good, light
Disadvantages: None so far (only had it a week though)
...It is the second Samsung I've had and I love the layout of the keyboard etc - so much better than Dell, which are a bit functional (though good value for money). It's quite small which makes it light and easy to port about, and the screen is big enough, though obviously if you want a bigger screen there are loads out there larger. I expect the smallish screen improves the battery life. The actutal viewing on the screen is good though - it is one ...

a fast and portable laptop
Review of Sony VAIO TZ31MN/N - Core 2 Duo U7600 1.2 GHz - 11.1" TFT by
techno_man_37
Advantages: extremly portable
Disadvantages: possible the screen size
Sony VAIO TZ31MN/N
This sony VAIO TZ31MN/N is a new one not only from sony but also from there range of seriously ultra portable laptops. The features this has for a laptop of its size is great compared to any laptop and its also so portable its unbelievable it really is a technical persons dream.
There has recently been an increase in ultra portable laptops and even pc tablets too, and this is what this laptop can be used as seen as its that small. ... ...something that I will be reviewing soon is the asus EEE pc. This however doesn’t run on windows so is a downside for me and many others and also doesn’t have anywhere near the memory and hard drive this laptop has so this definitely wins that. The only thing is though this is a lot dearer which is something ill mention a little later on.
If I had to describe its looks in a few words I think id choose cool, sleek and elegant. It really ...

A lean machine
Review of Toshiba Portege R500-100 - Core 2 Duo U7600 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
st.v1
Advantages: Weight, battery, screen
Disadvantages: FIngerprint software
...power), and the keyboard. Toshiba has packaged the machine well, with a handy set of utilities, such as HDD protection (although this can be annoying when you're on a bumpy train - even if it is doing its job), the ConfigFree software (with its quick connect to different networks, wireless and Bluetooth connectivity), and power saving options. Switching between monitors and Digital TVs (if they are fitted with a PC connection) shows that the graphics ... ...although the Realtek audio mixer is basic. The touchpad drove me to distraction until I found how to turn it off while I typed - it's software is too clever by half and leads to the cursor jumping around the screen as you type. The big thing you need to be aware of is, paradoxically, using the fingerprint reader software for anything than basic passwords. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO USE IT TO PROTECT FILES. If there's a glitch that stops the TrueSuite software ...

acers best laptop yet
Review of Acer TravelMate 6292-302G16N - Core 2 Duo T7300 2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
punker123
Advantages: super fast
Disadvantages: none
...and sleekist laptop from the acer line, this laptop still isnt as sleek and cool as some of the other new laptops out their on the market today.
the TravelMate 6292 weighs less than 2kg with its 6-cell battery in place which i think you will agree is a really nice leight weight laptop, if your looking for somthing to take places alot.
its actual footprint on a desk is only a little bigger than apeice of a4 paper, so this is really portable.
acer ... ...robustness of this product.
acer claim to have, provided better ergonomics, improved build quality and enhance overall durability in their new product and they have even added an magnesium alloy into the TravelMate chassis for enhanced robustness.
even the lid over the screen is protected alot more, and you can tell by just holding this laptop its alot more secure then the previous types.
this acer has a 12.1 inch screen, but because its widescreen, ...
