Dell Vostro 1000

Advantages: Cheap and well spec'd
Disadvantages: No disadvantages when priced at £352
...user.
The specifications of Dell laptops always seem to be getting better. I made the decision to buy.
The snag I found was this Dell Vostro 1000 was a range that is only available to business customers. This wasn't really a major problem, as I could just buy it as a business. Purchasing as a business has a drawback, but it also has a pro point.
The drawback to buying as a business is that the distance selling regulations only apply to consumers, ... ...you change your mind.
The pro point is that the laptops tend to have less rubbish installed on them, than their equivalent consumer models.
The specifcation of the Laptop I purchased was:
AMD AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-53 (1.7GHz,512KB)
2GB RAM
Integrated ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 HyperMemoryTM
15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) display
120GB Hard Drive
DVD+/-RW with Dual Layer DVD+R write capacity
4 USB Ports
Wireless (G)
Windows ...

Acer Aspire 5633WLMI
Review of Acer Aspire 5633WLMi - Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
lisaj54
Advantages: Excellent value for money, good spec
Disadvantages: not bluetooth enabled
...that when I compared the Acer to the big boys it offered much much more for the money. The only thing that this particular model doesnt offer is built in Bluetooth but this can be easily solved by purchasing a dongle.
It was so easy to set up and i was able to use it immediately, from previous experience this was a blessing and quite refreshing, no sotware cds, anti vrus software to install as it was already pre loaded. I would definitely recommend ...

A bargain?
Review of Acer Aspire 1300X - Athlon XP 1400+ 1.2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
cheffie1
Advantages: Compact, value for money
Disadvantages: no USB ports for mouse etc!
Had never heard of the Acer brand before but as the laptop was on special offer in shop and appeared to be a bargain, we gritted our teeth and went ahead. Over the first few weeks after purchase we realised that the laptop has no USB ports or ports for mouse etc so you have to use the touch pad, like it or not. However for a basic, home use laptop for the average user it does what it needs to do! Would not recommend this model for any business use ...

Cheap pile of plastic poo.
Review of Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Pa 1510 - Turion 64 X2 TL-56 1.86 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
VirtualMark
Advantages: Runs windows
Disadvantages: Overheats, poor build quality.
...it to be collected by fujitsu siemens. I heard the rattling again and decided to take a quick look myself by taking the upgrade slot off. To my horror i saw that a screw was loose inside the case, it hadn't been put on properly at the factory. This would have been rattling around and shorting stuff out, causing all sorts of mayhem. I found where it went and fixed the laptop myself. I then had about 6 months of trouble free computing. Well almost ... ...you don't go anywhere near fujitsu siemens, they are a pile of crap. Go for a more reputable brand, and make sure your laptop has adequete cooling and build quality for the job. Also i would recommend staying away from Comet. They are quick to sell you something, then they wash their hands of the item. Trust me, they don't wanna know when something goes wrong. And as for fujitsu customer care, forget it. One tech support guy hung up on me because ...
