Windows XP Proffesional SP3 BETTER THAN VISTA LOOK!
Advantages: Speed, Reliability, Size of Screen, Size of HDD Disadvantages: External shell is business orientated
I have had this laptop now for just under a year and this is the best laptop, for a home user. This laptop is not for any serious gamers or moderate gamers, but this can perfom to an extent. This has a great 17 inch screen. Perfect for watching movies, also this laptop has a fairly fast proccessor backed up with 2gb of RAM. When i purchased this laptop Vista was installed on it I loved the look and animations, But using over time the laptop started ... ...to wipe Vista off the laptop and install SP3 Windows XP Proffesional. Now i have had Windows XP running for more than 6 months, i am pleased to say the laptop is stil running like new. Also the system is much more stable and the computer has only crashed once. This is the way forward, OK Windows XP doesn't have the eye candy but, has the stability and speed that vista lacks. Another point is that you can get features and themes that make your system ...

A little unreliable but otherwise good
Advantages: Good value and tough Disadvantages: Slows down considerably after a while, faulty parts
I have had this laptop for about 2 years and it has served me well, though some parts have become faulty during this time: the CD drive for one does not work at all anymore. The laptop has also noticeably slowed down in performance in the last 6 months, despite my best efforts to clean it up and make it more efficient. In terms of portability, it is fairly standard, not being particularly heavy nor light. The keyboard is resilient and in fact the ...

A fairly priced laptop that does the job
Advantages: great for most applications, runs vista well Disadvantages: poor sound card, frustrating graphics card, not for games
Toshiba have really expanded their Laptop/ notebook range over the last decade. The Equium series represents an affordable option for those wanting a standard laptop without advanced hardware. The Equium range operates moderately with Vista- although slow down can often be a problem. Even with a couple of Gig of Ram and the dual core processor it can often have short moments of fatigue.
Initially problems such as these aren't noticable, but after ... ...running in the background- then you realise what a difference higher power machines make.
The on-board sound card is certainly nothing to get excited about. If you are into your music then don't expect to blast it out. I would pitch this laptop to students or general application/internet users but not gamers. The on-board graphics have limited pixel shaders which means it won't run the latest games. In fact, by running a compatability check- the ...

Notebook Review
Toshiba Satellite U400-138
-The little wonder; Laptop at its best!
Why to buy?
Let me first tell you that I had owned laptops before (5 of them). A month back I purchased an HD Camcorder and thus, started shopping for something more powerful, to do my HD Movie Editing. I knew it was time for a core2duo model. After contemplating few of the latest brands I chose the Toshiba Satellite U400-138, about 10 days back. Have used it vigorously ... ...finally settled down for the Toshiba Satellite U400-138. You know why? (1)Configuration, (2)Looks and (3)Price. Toshiba beats them in these 3 departments. I'll give you my reasoning, which may not be right for everyone, but is the general requirement for all notebook shoppers:
Macbook. I sincerely wanted to migrate to Mac this time. But found their configuration & pricing not matching the market (Mac 's still riding on their niche marketing).
