Lasher is book 2 out of 3 of the mayfair witch trilogy (the witching hour, Lasher and Taltos) if you haven't read the first book then this review will be of no use, i can't put anymore information as it will spoil the first book.It continues the story of Rowan Mayfair and Michael Curry. In the witching hour we meet Lasher as only a spirit who has been helping/haunting the powerful Mayfair witches. It becomes obvious that he wants to become of the flesh again and in Lasher we are told his ellusive story. The book is set in set in New Orleans, the Garden district but flits to Donnelaith Scotland. Rowan is the legacy of the Mayfair fortune and a very powerful witch, Married to Michael Curry and haunted by Lasher the spirit Lasher having now been reborne of Rowan Mayfair and keeping her prisoner now wants to reproduce more demons like himself,( but can he do it with Rowan or other Mayfair females) mainly a female so they produce a strong demon to help them get their ideal goal. Can the Mayfair family stop this goal? we also meet all the members of the Mayfair family and find out why it was Rowan who had this adventure. Anne makes Lasher a monster a lover a deceitful person but in the end you almost feel sorry for Lasher. The Mayfair witches are as enthralling as the vampire chonicles and can also go side by side with them in so far as the witches are mentioned in the chronicles.I found the book enthralling and couldn't put it down as with all of Annes writings, She goes into so much detail about New Orleans and other parts of the country even if you have never been there you feel that you know the places. You feel you can almost smell the flowers and surrounding shrubbery and the scent of fear!
Advantages: A great story Disadvantages: Rather long
In the typical AnneRice style, this book is a page turner. Once I started it, it was hard to put it down. This book follows The Mayfair Witches and Lasher. I read it first and was a bit confused as to the story line, but as I got into the book, it made little difference that I hadn't read the other two before it. Though after reading this book, it made me want to read the other's before it.
An ancient race of beings older than man. They breed in minutes and live for centuries. Lasher, was the first Taltos that the Mayfair witches met, and when he was distroyed, they assumed that he was the only one of his kind. But they were wrong, because there is another.
Ashlar is legendary of the Taltos. He seems so innocent and pure, but he has done and suffered so much wrong in his time. He lives to serch for another ...
At the centre of Anne Rice's brilliant novel, the beautiful Rowan Mayfair, queen of the coven, must flee from the darkly brutal, yet irresistible demon known as Lasher. With a dreamlike power, this wickedly seductive entity draws us through twilight paths, telling a chillingly hypnotic story of spiritual aspirations and passion. 'Behind all the velvet drapes and gossamer winding sheets, this is an old-fashioned family saga - Rice's descriptive writing is so opulent it almost begs to be read by candlelight' - "The Washington Post Book World". About the AuthorAnne Rice was born in New Orleans in 1941, the second daughter in an Irish Catholic family. She is the author of the phenomenally successful Vampire Chronicles, now numbering 10 novels, of which Interview with the Vampire became a cult bestseller and a record-breaking film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. She has written 17 other novels, including the popular Lives of the Mayfair Witches series.
