Since I was 12 I was told I needed to wear glasses which totally shook my world, I was a fashion conscious young lady for goodness sake I didn't want to be wearing glasses that would be sooo not cool !! In the end I had to compromise with my mum and have glasses and contact lenses, which was a...

Cost, possible problems as with all operations

OK, OK, so the title made you cringe – but the point is, a slightly unpleasant smell was the ONLY tiny thing I didn’t much like about the eye surgery. So that’s gotta be good! If you’re reading this you are either someone planning to have surgery, or simply interested in the topic for someone you...

“Twenty Twenty.”

published 09/08/2008

No more glasses or lenses, quick and painless

Expensive, full recovery takes time.

Laser eye surgery has been around for twenty years, longer than you might think, but I had never met anyone who had had the treatment until I moved to Bermuda just over two years ago. For some reason, perhaps the outdoor lifestyle, it is incredibly popular there and in my admittedly small office...

“VISION LIKE NEVER BEFORE”

published 01/03/2004

Vision like I've never had before

The gritty after pain

My life changing experience happened in January 2002. I underwent LASIK on both eyes on the same day for short sightedness with a stigmatism. I had worn glasses since I was 7 years old, and had been taunted by nicknames such as “Four eyes” for the whole of my school life. Other inconveniences of...

Quick, easy, painless.

Expensive, Has some risks.

This is a rather long account of my experience of laser eye surgery. Get a cuppa, and settle down..... Why I chose to have this done I still remember that day, 22 years ago, in school assembly when I realised I could no longer see the words during 'hymn practice'. Resigned to the humiliation of...

Never wear contact lenses or glasses again!

Well, I finally went for it! After ages researching the Lasik and PRK process, and a number of companies offering it, I did it. A bit of background information about: Myself I am shortsighted (oops, WAS shortsighted!). I have worn glasses for 10 years since I was 10. I tried contact lenses, but...

Laser Eye Surgery - Optimax Bristol Well, I booked my laser eye surgery for 6th May 2006 at optimax bristol. Now, lots of people have told me that optimax are perhaps not the best but when i went for my initial consultation they said that i could have epi-lasik for just £800 for both eyes as my...

Ever since I was 11 years old, I have had the misfortune of inheriting my Fathers bad eyesight. I can vividly remember one Christmas not being able to read the Christmas cards that my mother had hung up in the living room. LASIK (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure which involves the cutting of a thin layer of the cornea, leaving a hinged flap which is lifted and folded back from the eye; a pre-programmed excimer laser then reshapes the outer layer of the exposed cornea before the flap is replaced...

Here goes I decided after years of humming and awing to have laser surgery. My eyes are quite poor -8.5 and -8.25. I went to Optimax and did the usual and was told that I was suitable for Epi lasek and that I should go for Monovision as the cornea was thinner in my left eye. I asked if this would...

“LaserVision, Harley Street”

Better than 20:20 vision the next day

For me, none whatsoever

I was shortsighted, with a prescription of 2.25 in one eye and 1.75 in the other. I also had astigmatism (cornea shaped like a rugby ball instead of being spherical, causing blurring) in my better eye. I hated the way I looked in glasses (oh the vanity...!), was starting to find my contact lenses...

Painless, quick recovery - superb vision!

Bit pricey, but worth it

As I write this on 16th May 2008, I have to remind myself that it was only 8th May (last week) when I had Intralase Wavefront Lasik at Optimax in Leeds. I think I chose the most expensive option (£3,000 total) just to have everything done by laser (less chance of infection and complications)...
