There's so much more to lavender than you think!

Advantages: Has multiple uses around the home, smells lovely
Disadvantages: Can attract bees (which isn't that bad!)

...and opt for just growing lavender for its look and scent in the garden, and do not realise how easily it can be used inside the house, and indeed, for how many purposes.

As this review is in the 'garden' section of Ciao, I feel I must start off with this side of things first. Indeed, there is no chicken-or-egg question when it comes to lavender - I suppose one must start off by growing it before using it!

Lavender in the garden
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I grew my first lavender plant when my dad agreed to let me have a corner of the garden when I was about 17. Not really knowing what I was doing from a gardening perspective, I decided on lavender just because I knew what it was and thought it smelled nice! I bought a fairly large plant (about 30cm across) and at the time it cost me about £8 (that was 5 or 6 years ago) ... more
Lavender in my English country garden
Advantages: Look and smell lovely. Insects are attracted to the flowers
Disadvantages: Don't last for ever
Lavender is a quintessential English country garden shrub. In our ever increasing warmer and dryer climes they are probably going to thrive even better over the coming years than the other traditional plants such as hollyhocks, honeysuckle, rose or delphiniums. Lavender looks good, smells lovely and has many practical uses. Indeed lavenders have been recorded in this country since the Roman times. They are a very versatile plant, valued for their ...
...Growing ☼ Lavender can be grown from seed but they are not very easy; the seeds germinate slowly and they are not guaranteed to come up true to the parent plant, so in effect you could get any colour flower. They are readily available at most garden centres where you can buy a very small plant for not much more than a couple of pounds or a more substantial plant for ten pounds or more. In my opinion it is far better to buy a small plant and ...
Well, If it's good enough for Jesus!
Advantages: Lovely fragrance, attractive, useful
Disadvantages: -
Lavender is one of those herbs you see in so many gardens – Many people grow it because it looks nice, has a distinctive scent, and because it attracts bees and butterflies to a garden. It’s the ‘Swiss Army Knife’ of the herb family – as well as being decorative and highly scented, its also useful in cosmetics, rituals, cooking, and cleaning – In fact pretty much everything! Lavender ~~~~~~~ Lavender, or Lavendula, commonly grown in the UK nowadays, ...
...and the Romans bathed in lavender scented water and it was from the Latin word "lavo" meaning "to wash" that the herb took its name. Lavender is a member of the Lamiacaea family of plants – a family that also houses mint, thyme, rosemary, and many other herbs .Plants from this family have a bit of a reputation for being bullies in the garden, taking over all available space and seeding themselves al over the place . Lavender is no exception – while ...
lovely lavender. some info on how to use too
Advantages: smells great, and works for period pain too
Disadvantages: do not use in the 1st 3 months of pregnancy
Lavender As im sure everyone knows, lavender has been used for centuries in the perfume industry, with its sweet smelling aroma with woody undertones its just perfect. Although it has many other uses too, from treating depression to pain relief, and as a bug repellent. As a plant, I have seen lavender used to create a boarder in much the same way as a hedgerow is used. And I must say that it looks stunning when it is in full bloom. And the smell ...
...with the vast amounts of lavender that she always had about the house. To do this add a few drops of the pure essential oil to a cotton ball and place in the back of your wardrobe, careful to place it somewhere that its not going to get on your clothes though. As the oil will stain fabric. In a massage oil it relaxes your muscles and eases tension. Its strong antiseptic actions make it good for treating things like sunburn and acne. Its properties ...
...centre, as I wanted more Lavender plants to plant along my path. Lavender is my favourite herb and I already have dozens of plants in my garden. The gorgeous scent and colour of lavender remind me of holidays in the South of France! Growing Lavender. ******************** It is possible to grow Lavender from seed but I recommend you buy established plants from a nursery. Lavender is not expensive to buy; I paid £2.00 each for established plants. ...
...Lavender is less hardly than its English counterpart, but has gorgeous butterfly type flowers. French lavender likes to be in full sun with well-drained soil. I grow mine in a large pot on my sunny patio. If you grow your lavender in a container then you will need to water it. You must also ensure the pot is large enough as lavender has long roots. English lavender is much more hardy than the French variety and once established will need little ...
Lovely Lavender
Advantages: pretty smells good
Disadvantages: none
...wash. I smelt some lavender yesterday and thought ahhhhhh Lavender I have not written an opinion on you yet. So I have settled down to write one. Lavender is an herb I have strong childhood memories of. My parents live in a thatched cottage a semi attached to my grandparents who are now dead the garden was combined and we had a row of about 10 lavender plants they were under the washing line. I hadn't thought about it till recent years, but I suspect ...
...ago) I remember picking the lavender and putting it in the airing cupboard wrapped up in a pillowcase to dry. When it had dried and the flowers fell of the stalks, my mother would sew little bags and we would stuff them with lavender. Some of these bags she would give as gifts, some she would put in every drawer that contained clothes, towels or bedding. As a young girl I was a girl guide I have memories of bob a jobbing. I used to visit my grandma's ...
Lavish your room in Lavender!
Advantages: Nice smell, easy to use bottle, will last you a long time
Disadvantages: Only available through Avon
I don't really like using air fresheners in my house as I don't really like the chemicals in the air around Harry, I just prefer to open a window to let the fresh air in! But occasionally, especially when the weather is bad and I can't open the windows, it does get a bit stuffy and I need a little something to freshen the place a little bit. I got this in a Christmas present last year, and while I don't usually like Avon products, I was very impressed with this product. This product is made by Avon and is called Lavender Linen and Room Spray. It is for use both in open rooms and onto linens as well. The products is suitable for being sprayed onto sofas and other linens as it does not stain at all. It's part of the Aromatherapy range, because it contains calming lavender, and is a soothing spray. The product comes in a clear ...
Have A Relaxing Time Washing Up!Tesco anti-bacWUL French Lavender
Advantages: Smells nice and is anti-bacterial washing up liquid
Disadvantages: checking further into the ingredients perhaps ..
Tesco Antibacterial Washing Up Liquid French Lavender I've bought this product for my last two online shops now, as I liked it so much the first time that I used it. This is a Tesco own brand product .The bottle that Tesco Anti-Bacterial French Lavender Washing up liquid comes in is pretty standard -similar to the one used by a leading brand of washing up liquid. For me the colour of the liquid seems quite unique or unusual but then that is reflecting the unique scent of the product. The Liquid is a purply blue colour which is to be expected of a product that is Lavender scented . The size of this bottle is 500ml (pretty standard) The bottle advertises the scent as 'French' Lavender but not knowing myself if French Lavender is meant to smell any different to regular Lavender found in country parks ,woodlands or in the back garden ...
Avon Naturals Lavender & Camomile Room & Linen
Advantages: Fresh smell, Clear, Cheap, Long lasting
Disadvantages: None
I\'m one of those people that plays with testers, asks people what scent they are wearing and...when visiting other peoples lavatories, I can\'t help but give that tempting little potions bottle a little squirt to sample the delights (and sometimes not so delightful aromas) that it has to offer. In the past Avon has drawn me in, only for me to find that the products (mainly cosmetics) are as cheap in quality as they are in price. So I was more than pleasantly suprised when I sprayed Avon Naturals Soothing Lavender and Chamomile. The smell is light and refreshing, a subtle flowery scent that ligers but not in a bad way! Beautiful fragrance to spray onto linen whilst ironing, into drawers or wardrobes or just to freshen up the room. I personally love having a nice fragranced room without overpowering everyone that walks in. I ...
