Lavender
As im sure everyone knows, lavender has been used for centuries in the perfume industry, with its sweet smelling aroma with woody undertones its just perfect. Although it has many other uses too, from treating depression to pain relief, and as a bug repellent. As a plant, I have seen lavender used to create a boarder in much the same way as a hedgerow is used. And I must say that it looks stunning when it is in full bloom. And the smell as you walk past is just out of this world.
I love the smell of it, especially as it always reminds me of my nana. Her house always smelled of moth balls and lavender. Though I think it would have been much preferable
for her to have made her own mothballs with the vast amounts of lavender that she always had about the house. To do this add a few drops of the pure essential oil to a cotton ball and place in the back of your wardrobe, careful to place it somewhere that its not going to get on your clothes though. As the oil will stain fabric.
In a massage oil it relaxes your muscles and eases tension. Its strong antiseptic actions make it good for treating things like sunburn and acne.
To help prevent dandruff add a few drops to your final rinse, or sprinkle a few drops on your hairbrush. By adding a few drops to warm water, and using a soft cloth, gently press over an area to treat minor cuts and bites and sprains, this also helps to promote skin re-growth. As well as easing pain and swelling. Its calming sedative effects are why it’s great to add a few drops of oil to a bath before bedtime, to calm and relax both your body and your mind.
You can make a great toner by putting a handful of flower heads into a bowl and pour over boiled water, leave to soak for a few days and strain off the liquid to be bottled for storage and then use as a toner after cleansing. This will help to regulate oils in the skin, and is a great skin tonic.
To relive period pains gently massage your tummy and lower back, for me this has been a godsend. Its great for any massage though, luckily I don’t have to make too many excuses to get a massage though.
To dry your lavender follow, these simple instructions.
Cut a bundle of lavender, about 8 oz that is a bundle that will fit in your hand, and place a rubber band around the stems. A lot of people are unnecessarily worried about cutting their lavender plants, when actually; it should be done to help the plant grow fuller. Hang the bundle upside down by the rubber band in a dark dry place. I use the garage, but you can use a closet or attic. Hanging the bundle in darkness helps the lavender to keep its beautiful colour. You can bend a paper clip or Christmas ornament hook and hook it through the rubber band, or hang the bundle from a nail, just make sure the bundle isn't touching a wall or something. Upside down, the stalks will stiffen and the bundle will retain shape. Leave the bundle drying for about one week. You will be able to tell by touch if the drying process is finished. There will be no moisture and the stems will not be pliable.
Your dried lavender stalks can be used for floral arrangements or other crafts. But, if you are drying the lavender for the buds, keep the bundle upside down and place a large bowl or bucket under the lavender. Gently rub your hands from top to bottom, shaking loose the buds. Store them in an airtight container until you have use for them. Hope this helps, thanks for reading.
Avoid in the first 3 months of pregnancy.

I absolutely adore lavender; I find its clean, sharp smell both comforting and uplifting. Ooooh, I do miss my South African herb garden......have to make do with a tiny yard here in England. I think I need some pots of lavender!
