Hayter Harrier 412 Electric Start

Advantages: Starts easily.
Disadvantages: Heavy; awkward to handle; poor grass collection

...much older model of petrol-engined Hayter and had had no complaints at all about it. Having upgraded to the Harrier 412, I wish I had not wasted my money. The first thing we noticed was how heavy it is and how difficult it is to manoeuvre. Given that my wife likes to mow the lawn, it is not an easy machine for her to use, given that we don't have acres of grass to cut in nice straight lines. It is awkward to use on even a medium-sized lawn. The other ...
...it clogs up the chute and compacts around the cutting blade, so that no grass gets into the collecting bag at all. On a cosmetic note, the manufacturer's decal has come unstuck and some of the plastic trims have come loose. This does not affect how the machine works, but it is not what you would expect from an expensive mower. On a positive note, the mower generally starts easily and first time and we have had no trouble with the battery for the ...

Diamond review  The Most Boring Opinion in the World.

Advantages: Powerful, efficient, built like a rock.
Disadvantages: Some design niggles, hefty price tag.

...a review of my trusty Hayter Harrier 56. A year on, however, and things don't seem to have improved. Sure, the total number of opinions has swelled to a whopping 2.6 million, but reviews of lawnmowers still stand at...wait for it, a lousy, measly, pathetic thirty four. THIRTY FOUR! Out of 2.6 million! And the opinion that I wrote is STILL the most recent entry for the Hayter Harrier! Don't you people have lawns? I suppose it could be worse, it ...
...lucky people. The NEW Hayter Harrier 48. Now, the OLD Harrier 48 was basically a scaled down version of the 56, offering identical features and specifications but with a smaller 19" cutting width compared with the 22" cut of the 56. However, while the 56 has remained unchanged in almost 20 years, the 48 has recently undergone a few minor design changes and, sadly, they're not all changes for the better. At first glance, it doesn't look too different ...

Flymo Quicksilver 46SDR petrol lawnmower

Advantages: Very reliable motor, metal rear roller, 50 litre grass box, hosepipe attachment cleaner.
Disadvantages: Height adjustment lever, heavy weight, tendency to scuff moist lawns because of weight

...lawnmower, which was an electric Flymo 380 hover mower. As I tended to other people's lawns I chose to go for a petrol mower because of the flexibility it provided rather than having to either use their electricity or to take my heavy transformer with me. I decided to stick with Flymo because of their reputation and availability of spare parts. I needed one that was self-propelled, with a rotor blade and came with a rear roller. The one that met ...
...a very reliable 4 stroke Briggs & Stratton engine, which up to this day started first time , every time and unusually a metal rear roller (ideal for producing definite lines in the lawn as opposed to the plastic roller types). I purchased it on 5/5/2008 through a registered garden supplier on an internet auction site, who put it all together for me prior to collection. This came in very handy because the instruction book that came with it was not ...

Panther 30 is a very basic mower that does the job wonderfully.

Advantages: Low Cost, Easy To assemble, no more effort than the electric equivalent.
Disadvantages: some of the smaller, finer clippings miss the collecting box.

I purchased this mower at the begining of summer as I only have small lawns. It was easy to assemble thanks to the clear instructions and I was ready to cut my lawns in about 20 minuts, shame it was raining. The following day, I tried the Panther and found to my surprise that it is no more hard work than the electric mower, and I had cut my back lawn in less time than it would have taken me to mess about finding the extension lead, hanging it through ...
...the grass clipping end up in the box, but the clippings are so fine its not an issue. It is extremely easy to adjust the height of the cut, and the roller at the back of the mower gives the lawn a nice striped effect making it look as though I have put in far more effort than I actually have. Nothing has broken or fallen off during this years growing season and I am more that confident it will be cutting my lawns for a fair few years. Maybe simplicity ...

Mowing The Lawn Just Became Enjoyable With The Bosch Rotak 34

Advantages: Easy to use. Cuts brilliantly.
Disadvantages: Like most electric mowers - the cable, but there's not really a way around that!

...have a crack at the Bosch Rotak 34 - a bold decision, especially after the comfort and relative ease of the Flymo's series for my entire home-owning life and I wasn't a big fan of my dads or anyone else’s seemingly big and clunky 'mowers on wheels'. But what a decision I ultimately made. Mowing the lawn as it says in this title has now become an enjoyable experience - seriously, I actually look forward to doing it! Sad you think? Probably so, but ...
...the Rotak series. Each model appears to go up increments of around £30, so you can actually spend another hundred or so on the top models, but if you don’t have a lot to spend and want a decent mower – then buy the 34. Seriously, it’s top notch. It has six different cutting lengths (which can be easily adjusted) so cuts extremely short and has a huge collection bucket which sits firmly on the rear of the mower. It also compacts the grass tightly ...
