Advantages Cooks well,durable
Disadvantages heavy handle gets hot
I was lucky last year to receive a gift of a le Creuset omelette pan. Since le Creuset has a lifetime guarantee I do not expect to need anymore omelette pans. I have one or two other le Creuset items in volcanic orange and the omelette pan matches although it can be bought in several other colours. The colours are volcanic, blue, granite, cerise, teal blue, satin black or almond. The cooking side of the pan is dark satin black enamel.
This pan cooks my omelettes well; I have also used it to fry and poach eggs and do a good job of it. This pan does take quite a time to heat up but it retains the heat well and the heat is well distributed across the base
Take care of your pan and it will last your lifetime wash it in hot soapy water in or out of the dishwasher. To see complete way to care for your pan go to http://www.lecreuset.co.uk/cast-iron-omelette-pans.aspx. Because I made a fuss when hubby was washing it once he now tells me he is only washing my le Creuset with silk
This pan can be use on gas or electric and since the handle has no covering it can also go in the oven as well as on the hob. This pan can also go under the grill that’s ideal for browning the food before serving. If you are cooking a quick omelette on the hob the handle does get quite warm if it is on the hob for a long time or in the stove I use an oven glove or glove to protect my hands . I notice that le Creuset do sell a handle glove sleeve that looks like its perfectly designed for this pan This sleeve/glove costs £5.50 at John Lewis. I may treat myself to one.
The RRP of this omelette pan is £60 http://www.johnlewis.com/ sell it for this price .The cheapest I found it on line at http://thecookskitchen.com it costs £47.00. I know that seems a lot for an omelette pan but when you consider how durable it is and with care when cleaning you will never need to buy another it is good value.
The first le Creuset pans were enamelled cast iron pots produced in 1924 by 2 Belgians in France at Fresnoy-le-Grand in Aisne, France. If you wish to read about the history go to http://www.lecreuset.co.uk/About-Us/History/ if you want an omelette recipe go to http://www.lecreuset.co.uk/Souffl%C3%83%C2%A9d-Cheese-and-Potato-Onlette.aspx or http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/search.do?keywords=omelette
