I really enjoy cooking and have been gradually acquiring a decent set of pans! I am a fan of Le Creuset as I think they are well made and should last me for ever!
My most recent purchase in the Le Creuset range is a 28 cm toughened non stick deep frying pan. Le Creuset is not cheap and this pan cost me £63 from Amazon. The RRP is actually £90, so it is worth shopping around! I had some Amazon vouchers to use so the price was reduced further.
What you get for all that money!

Le Creuset makes several frying pans in this range including a 20 cm and 24 cm option. I bought the largest 28 cm size as I wanted a pan large enough to feed all my family. The pan is quite heavy and I appreciate the addition of an extra rounded handle at the front of the pan to help me lift and carry the pan. The frying pan also has a long main handle. The handles are made from stainless steel and are riveted in place.
The frying pan is coated both on the inside cooking surface and the outside with a non stick coating that is reinforced with minerals. This apparently makes the non stick surface lasts much longer.
This is quite a deep pan and is suitable for using on all heat sources up to a temperature of 260 Celsius.
This frying pan comes with a manufacturer 10 year guarantee.
Using the pan.
*****************
The manufactures recommend that before you use the pan for the first time you wash it in warm soapy water. In order to ensure the pan retains its non stick quality, you will next need to rub the cooking surface with a little vegetable oil and rinse with warm water, drying well. This process should be repeated occasionally.
This pan is suitable for cooking all sorts of foods. I have used the pan to cook omelette, pasta sauces, fish and meat. I have found that I need to use less olive oil than with my old pan and therefore food contains less fat. The food has always turned out well ,with fish and meat retaining their juices.
I have also found that food takes less time to cook through, so another bonus! The main handle is quite long and it does take up more room on my hob than I was expecting. Both handles look of good quality and are firmly fixed in place. The handles don’t get hot and this makes the pan safe to hold and carry.
I always use either a silicone fish slice or wooden spoon when cooking with this pan as I don’t want to damage the non stick surface. However the manufacturers say that it is safe to use metal implements as long as care is taken not to scratch the pans surface.
The pan is really easy to clean and I have never bothered to wash in my dishwasher, although the pan is dishwasher safe. The pan has deep sides and this prevents food from splashing over the edges of the pan onto my hob.
Any negatives?
******************
This is an expensive frying pan and I would have expected it to come with a lid! However if you want a lid you will need to buy it separately. The glass lid that fits this pan retails for around £20! I have found that the lid from my old frying pan just about fits so use this.
The main handle is quite long and although this is a positive as far as carrying the pan is concerned, it is also a bit of a negative as the pan takes up quite a bit of room on my hob.
Overall I am really happy with this frying pan! It cooks food well and quickly. It doesn’t make a mess of my hob and is easy to clean. The pan looks and feels well made and the stainless steel handles feel securely attached. In sort this pan is a pleasure to use!
