== My First LeapPad - Thomas and the School Trip Book ==
Firstly - I'm not playing...I'm reviewing !
Plenty of Thomas toys out there but this is an excellent (and well disguised as fun games) learning tool. Has proved to have long lasting entertainment value, and it's much easier to put away than a big box full of Brio...
All of the books for the My First Leap Pad are "two in one" flip books with one story side and an activity side on the other. The cover is fairly thick shiny card with a big Thomas picture. The pages of the book itself are thinner but still durable. The cartridge has a matching picture of Thomas, so it makes it easy to find the right one to go with the book. The pictures on and in the book are cartoon-style but done well. All the favorite Thomas engines and friends are here including the Fat Controller. The voice used for the narration is just like the one on the Thomas and Friends series and the voices of the characters are all 'right' as well, very well done not forgetting the Thomas theme tune too. The story is basically school children come to visit the train-yard Thomas leaves to get his work done and hurries to be back in time to take the children home. Thomas stops to help out Bertie the Bus and ends up taking the children home. Happy ever after...What a useful engine !
On the front it says" Preschool Discovery ages 3 and up" and that this book teaches: Numbers and counting, Vocabulary, Shapes and colours, Classification, Matching, Problem Solving and Opposites.
"Edward blew his whistle two times...touch the number 2.." Simple straightforward number games plus counting style games as well. Deals with feelings well identifying how people are feeling by the way they look..nice game. There's plenty of words 'vocabulary' to be learnt from this book which my son picked up quickly while playing, names of objects and such. The other useful subject was the 'opposites' which can be quite a hard one to explain this book definately helped out with that one.
Good games include identifying the right people and things, this is featured in a few of the games There's 2 nice games with 'Percy at the Dock' includes finding the right size (small, medium, and Big) boxes on Bulstrode the Barge and a find the sound game with Cranky the Crane. Another fave game is where you touch an animal with the pen then have to find its home.
The book is packed with games and music and loads of things to learn, in a word fantastic. There are alot of different games in this one as well, by that I mean not all based on doing the same things. It concentrates more on teaching different ideas and giving useful information and plenty of object names. I always love the way this machine explains the games it makes it very easy for you child to figure out what they need to do without help. Excellent for independant-type learning particularly effective when paired with your kids favourite characters.

I got this one as part of a 3 pack which cost me £19.99 but it can be bought alone, prices vary average being around £6 -£10+ I definately recommend shopping around and looking on-line for the best deal. The Thomas book seems to have more to offer in a learning sense to me than some of the others...'Cars' for example which concentrates more on writing skills. This is one that my boy learned alot of words and things from and helped him get the concept of opposites too. Would recommend as a first book to buy with the My First LeapPad for any Thomas Fan, plenty of fun and plenty to learn while playing.
