Advantages: Kids Learn By Repeitition; This Teaches By Repetition Disadvantages: It's Very Repetitive
...But along has come Leap Frog, manufacturer of other ingenious children's learning toys such as the LeapPad and Junior Explorer Globe - toys which already adorn my five-year-old's room - with their ingenious fridge letter system, Fridge Phonics.
The principle is excitingly simple: all twenty-six letters of the alphabet, stuck to the fridge as before. Aimed at two-year-olds and up, the letters are nice and chunky and feel great in the child's hand, ... ...Alphabet Song.
Like many Leap Frog learning toys, this is a simple, robust and yet brilliant system for teaching children the alphabet. The letters can act as ordinary fridge magnet letters, easily jumbled to create words or even hold that important unpaid bill in place, while all the time able to teach your child the correct sounds for their letters and have them begin to recognise the shape of them for their writing.
There's even an advanced ...

Advantages: Fun, learning, English speaking voice Disadvantages: none unless you count significant repetitive play by toddler
Leapfrog must by now be renown for learning toys that are fun fun fun for children of all ages.
I bought this toy for my toddler, then aged 2 with some Christmas money that he had been given. Now I originally thought £15 is a bit pricey but I had heard good things about the toy and bearing in mind baby daughter will grow into the toy I pursuaded myself to get it. Out the window went the doubt in my mind that I could quite happily sing the alphabet ... ...now his speech is quite fluent he says "don't sing mummmmmy"! Charming. Good job I bought the gadget then, and what a good buy it turned out to be. Enough pre-amble - I guess you want to hear about it....
The item is essentially what the item calls it - Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set. There is the base unit sporting the leapfrog frog which is a super strong magnet (not so strong that it can't be pulled off the fridge by wilful baby!). Then there ...

Advantages: Fun and easy way to learn the alphabet. Disadvantages: .........................................................................
Yes! Another great toy by Leap Frog, but this time one for the kitchen, or anywhere else you may want to take it for that matter. My daughter has a habbit of following me everywhere I go, and with her always comes some sort of toy to play with. Having a very small kitchen, its always quite hard to move around when shes on the floor with her toys, so I was so greatful when I fell across the Fridge Phonics by Leap Frog.
Fridge Phonics is a magnetic ... ...picture of the well known Leap Frog frog. There is a space in the middle of the unit for the letters to be placed. Also on the base unit you have the on / off switch which has two different volume settings and there is also a button in the shape of a music note. On the back of the unit is the battery compartment which requires 3 x AAA batteries. (The toy comes with batteries.) The base unit also has a magnet inside it so that it can be placed on ...

Advantages: Great teaching tool, fun for your child Disadvantages: Only upper case letters
This unit is amazing, we've had it 3 days and already our 2 ½ year old recognises 5 letters from the alphabet.
A little about the unit.
It is 4" x 4" with a "shaped" space at the top where the letters are placed. At the bottom right is the switch that turns the unit on; this has two settings for volume, which are quiet & loud. In the middle at the bottom is a musical note button, when this is pressed the unit will play the alphabet song. The unit ... ...they are magnetic. The unit itself also has "keyholes" on the back that can be mounted on screws on a wall. 3 AA size batteries are required, although I do believe a set is supplied but may not last long as people obviously try them out in the shop.
I should point out that everything is in English phonics on my version i.e. the letter z is pronounced "zed" not "zee" - I'm not sure if this is different if bought in the USA.
The toy comes with 26 ...

Advantages: Fantastic Way to Learn the Alphabet Disadvantages: Rather annoying tune which accompanies each letter
We bought our daughter this for Christmas 3 months before her second birthday ....... she loved it. We were staying with family and by the end of Christmas day everyone new the tune which accompanied each and every letter ....... the adults were getting slightly aggrivated by its repititious tune but our daughter had already picked a number of the letters and there sounds (phonics plays a big part in this product). She is now 2 and a half and can ... ...Despite THAT tune it was certainly one of the best gifts we've bought her so far. Not only does it keep her occupied in the kitchen, keeping her out of harms way,but it's a great way to learn the alphabet and the sounds they make and the way they look ...... l think the grown up's can put up with tune on such a great educational and fun toy. ...
