We bought the Leap Frog Learn & Groove Activity Station as an early Christmas present for our almost 4 month old son quite recently and I have to say it is our most valued item for him the house!
The station itself looks a bit like a traditional sit-in baby walker but it's not. It is a stationery activity centre in which the baby sits/stands in the middle and is surrounded by an array of things to play with.
It has five items/toys for your baby to play with: - Big colorful "Piano" keys - Sparkling disco ball - Record Player - Microphone - Song Book Baby can get at all of these because the seat in the middle rotates 360 degrees.
The station has two modes of play so when you flip the song book over it changes from music to learning. So for example the piano keys either say the numbers and colours when you press them or play a specific type of music such as salsa. The record player works by the baby pulling down the record players arm across the record and they are rewarded with either a funky version of the alphabet song or music. My son loves all the toys and spends ages fliping the song book back and forth and chewing on the microphone (makes a great teether!). Almost every movement they make will be rewarded by some sound or music or flashing lights/colours. He loves the music too!
If you buy this toy you will have to get used to hearing a slightly American voice saying "Salsa", "Jazz", "Five", "Sing It Baby" and many other words that help baby to learn but to be honest it's not that irritating as you get different words/things being said all the time. It also helps that it has two volume levels!!
Another reason I love this station is because I can just pop my son in it and I know he is safe and happy while I get on with some housework....or put my feet up. As any mum or dad will know who has a baby who has only learnt to roll over one way it can be impossible to get on with something with your baby screaming under the play gym because he can't roll himself back over!! This toy keeps him upright and very content.
You can have the station in a rocking mode so it moves from side to side with baby's excited movements or pop down little stabilising feet that keep it steady.
It is very easy to wipe clean and you can remove the padded fabric seat and pop it in the washing machine. It is also height adjustable (3 different height settings) so you can set it up to the right height for your baby at the time and the manufacturers say it is suitable from 4 months up until your baby is walking.
Considering that it is quite a large item you do need to have spare space wherever you are planning on putting this toy as it will stay out all the time. However, if you do want to take it to the grandparents for the day then it is quite easy to fold up and has a carry handle built in so it can be fairly portable.
The activity station cost us £79.99 which is a pretty standard price but I've seen a couple of offers on in different high street stores from time to time reducing it down to £59.99 but I think you have to be lucky to catch one of these.
As I said we decided to buy this early for Christmas to ensure that our son got as much use and fun out of it as he could and I am so pleased we did. I think this toy is worth every penny (I know it seems pricey), I use it everyday and it makes my son smile, he thinks he's so very clever when he presses the keys, etc and that makes me smile!
