Lee Stafford is a fairly well known hairdresser who launched his own salon in 1996 and in 1997 was awarded the title of Mens Hairdresser of the Year. Since then, he has leapt on the celebrity hairdresser bandwagon and brought out a range of products. The products are cheaper than salon brands like Kerastase, falling more alongside mid-range brands like John Frieda or Charles Worthington. To me, the smell is where Batiste falls down, the normal version doesn’t smell particularly great, and the Tropical version is hugely overpowering and so distinctive that I can’t help but feel that the poor people subjected to it on the train in the morning must be thinking “Yuck, she’s not washed her hair ... more
To me, dry shampoo is one of science’s best inventions. I suffer from very thick hair that tends to get greasy at the roots quite quickly and means it can look a bit flat, but the sheer thickness and amount of styling that my hair requires means that daily washing is not always possible. Add to that the fact that despite appearances, when it comes to my beauty routine I am actually very lazy and the thought of getting my hair wet only to have to spend an hour styling it is not my idea of a good time in the morning! Dry shampoo is the perfect solution to this problem - it comes in aerosol form and is like a powder that you spray into your hair to absorb excess grease and leave your hair looking fresh and clean again, much like the old tried and tested trick of combing through a bit of baby powder. It’s perfect for those days where you simply don’t have time to wash and style, or for times when you don’t have access to a shower – if anyone is off to Glastonbury then this is a must have item!
I have to admit that Lee Stafford products are not generally my favoured brand. The packaging is certainly eye-catching – a shockingly bright pink that really stands out on the shelves – but, true to Lee’s Essex roots, is somewhat chavtastic with a bull terrier adorning the front as the logo. What has tended to put me off though is the overpowering sickly sweet scent of the range, which to me smells like a 5 year old went mad applying her Mum’s perfume and then went for a trip through Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
My normal choice of dry shampoo is Batiste and for years this was the only one on the market, but I was tempted to buy Lee Stafford’s offering after reading a review that said that this had a lovely subtle floral smell, more like a perfume. To me, the smell is where Batiste falls down, the normal version doesn’t smell particularly great, and the Tropical version is hugely overpowering and so distinctive that I can’t help but feel that the poor people subjected to it on the train in the morning must be thinking “Yuck, she’s not washed her hair again this morning.” So something a bit more subtle that didn’t announce the laziness in my beauty routine was definitely appealing.
First impressions of the product are good – like the rest of the range it’s a shocking hot pink metallic can which has a protective cap over the top to prevent accidental pressing on the aerosol button. The cap is nice and easy to remove and applying really couldn’t be easier. It’s a product that is unquestionably girly with a real sense of fun and probably designed to appeal to teenagers (makes sense as we’re looking at greasy hair sufferers!)
The directions are to shake the can, spray onto your hair from a distance of 15cm and then massage vigorously into the head, allowing the shampoo to do its work. In terms of applying this is very much like the Batiste dry shampoo – it’s a very fine powder and when it touches the hair it leaves it a little bit grey and you get an idea of what you might look like when you reach 60! The grey effect does lessen when massaged in, but on my dark brunette hair it does leave a slightly noticeable greyish tint. I don’t find that this is as easy to massage into the hair as the Batiste version – although I’m massaging, it doesn’t feel like the shampoo is really reaching beneath the top layer of hair. I also find that I have to apply quite a lot and the 150ml can will probably last me about 3 months, using it probably once a week.
In terms of its ability to clean the hair, this is really best viewed as a quick fix in times of desperation – it certainly doesn’t refresh your hair and leave it looking fluffy and clean the way that a normal shampoo would. I find that it absorbs the grease and does leave it looking less lank and allows me to pass the “acceptable to leave the house” test, but I find my hair still feels dirty to the touch and I would never use this if I wanted my hair to look good for an occasion. It doesn’t have the shine and gloss that a real clean would give and although the dry shampoo does give it back a little bit of volume, it still doesn’t have the healthy bounce that really clean hair has. The effect does last the whole day which is impressive but there is no way you could get through another day without washing – a proper wash is required as soon as possible!
The smell is actually one of the product’s plus points – it’s not the overpowering scent that I’ve encountered in Lee Stafford products, but a more subtle version of it – it’s a very feminine scent, sweet and floral and more like a perfume or a body spray scent than the very beachy coconut smell of the Batiste Tropical. If you’ve ever smelt Angel by Thierry Mugler this is a nice imitation of it without being overly sweet. It’s nicely refreshing but doesn’t linger too long on the hair, which for me is a good thing as I don’t like scents to interfere with my perfume.
For me, this is one of those essential products to have in the bathroom cupboard. It’s not something I would choose to use often, but sometimes you need a shortcut in your routine and this does get you from a point where leaving the house is unthinkable without washing your hair (which for me takes another hour to style – the curse of long and thick hair!) to a point where you look passable. It’s not a pampering product definitely one that comes in handy in lots of situations – the makers must see sales soar any time there is a music festival on!
However, at £4.88 from Boots, Lee Stafford’s dry shampoo is double the price of Batiste’s version and apart from the smell, I have found no difference in the way the two perform. The nice smell of the Lee Stafford version is a bonus, but not one I’m convinced is worth paying an extra £2 for – after all, you don’t mind paying more for beauty products when you feel you’re pampering yourself, but after using this I feel dirty and slightly ashamed rather than pampered! Definitely one to pick up when Boots have a 3 for 2 on Lee Stafford products!
...a likely understatement) of the Lee Stafford range from Boots and the Lee Stafford website, www.leestafford.com (and Lee Stafford salons, but these are pretty scarce) and it is not a coincidence that this is another product from this range.

The way that dry shampoo works can be described in a fairly simple way. It resembles a fine talcum powder which subsequently absorbs the grease in your hair in order to give the appearance that you have just washed your hair, without the hassle of having to properly wash and blow dry. This also means that you are generally protecting the well being ...

...I decided to purchase the Lee Stafford miniature dry shampoo aerosol which is priced at £1.75 and it was only after waiting in line in the queue that I was advised it could not be used on the miniatures! ...products. I've never tried any Lee Stafford products before but friends of mine have and have always raved about them afterwards so I decided that I might as well give this one a go. It was priced at an extortionate £5.98 from Boots for only a 150ml can. This put me off immediately and I said to myself that I definitely wont be shelling out another near £6 on something that looked like it would only last around 2 weeks. As I had such a bad first impression of this and an already negative ...

...ages, and when I spotted Lee Stafford dry shampoo for oily roots it sounded like the answer to my problems.
~What is it?~
This is a dry shampoo, which is basically a product that is supposed to keep your hair looking fresher for longer, so you have to wash it less frequently. As the back of the bottle puts it 'girl you are ready to go without having to blow' Ahem...yes.

~Overall Verdict~
I was really disappointed with this product. I expected it to cure a problem, not create a new one! I also think is way overpriced and the only positive thing I can think of to say about it, is that the bottle ...

Lee Stafford's product got the hands down winner on the basis that it "really worked and smelt heavenly"
At £4.99 for 150ml (from Boots) compared to Batiste 150ml (£2.07 from Boots) it was definitely more pricey but I picked it up on eBay for considerably less. Plus the hot pink bottle definitely looks better in your bathroom than Batiste original which is old fashioned to say the least.

Finally I hear that Batiste have introduced a few new fragrances such as Tropical to their dry shampoo range and massively update the packing with bright colours. Therefore I would recommend a newbie go for that first than spending the extra on the Lee Stafford product. ...

I don't usually buy expensive hair products so I was very happy when I un-wrapped my birthday present off my mam to find a leestaffordpokerstraight set which included the heat protection spray, dehumidifier spray and dryshampoo.
The heat protection spray is in a bright pink bottle which has a spray nozzle on top plus a protection cap to cover it to avoid it being knocked and spraying out. The size of the bottle is 200ml but as you only need a few sprays over your hair it does last a long time.
This protection spray can be used on wet hair before drying it or on dry hair before straightening it. Just spray all over hair and comb through to spread it throughout the hair. When you first spray it over your hair the first thing you notice is the smell, its delicious. Its very sweet and fruity and leaves your hair smelling gorgeous ...
Advantages: Looks wonderful in your bathroom, and is pleasent smelling. Does straighten hair to a degree. Disadvantages: My hair was left dry and dull. Next day left with greasy hair. Didn't give me lovely straight hair.
felt rough. It also felt extremely dry. God knows my hair loves moisture. And LeeStaffordPokerStraightShampoo was not at all giving me anyway!
Throughout the course of the morning, my hair looked worse than what my hair usually is. Truth be known, it never looks great anyway in my eyes!
I ended up tying my hair back. I was disappointed to say the least.
My hair didn't even smell of anything anymore!
Next morning, I was very surprised to find my hair was quite greasy. What on earth was playing up here?! First dry hair, now greasy.
I tend to need to wash my hair every day regardless, but my hair looked as though I had been bed bound for a few days.
I am convinced that this has someone reacted with my hair type as it was really unusual.
I'm not even going to bother using this again, as in every area, apart from ...

session at the gym, but if I wanted to see how well this product worked then there wasn't much point in washing my hair was there? As soon as you spray this product onto your hair, it does look a little white which is rather worrying but it does smell very similar to LeeStaffordsPokerStraight styling product and slightly similar to the tropical Batiste dryshampoo that I have used before a bit like coconuts and it is a really pleasant smell.
Anyway, once you are satisfied that all of the powder has disappeared you can style your hair as you would normally do.
The first thing I noticed after using this product was less greasy roots, infact I struggled to see whether I had used this product in the first place because there was no sign of any greasy roots anywhere on my head as there had been before using the product. Having blonde hair ...
