There are two campuses, roughly 3 miles apart. The one in the city centre is right near the 'proper' university and handles lots of courses. The one in Headingley is for computing, sports and some others like business. Its a lovely setting, with the computing building being a converted farmhouse where Oscar Wilde stayed, and lush green lawns and trees everywhere. Unfortunately the course I am on and the lecturers let the side down. For starters, we are never told anything which goes on. I'll give an example, I had an exam which was rescheduled, and I went in to get the time of my exam first thing on Monday morning. Guess what, my exam was rescheduled for 9 o'clock the same morning, giving me no time to get to where I had to be. They never tell us our marks or where we are expected to be. It's all down to us to find out, which is OK in a way but does make things difficult especially if you travel in from elsewhere. The other thing is the lecturers are only interested in either proper boffins or women, as there are comparitively few on the course. If you are a normal male you have no chance and you can expect to be treated badly. Another example - a friend and I needed a few more days on an assignment, we both went seperately to ask for an extension. I gave a plausible story about too much work at once, I was turned down. She said she was run down because of stress, she got the extension. Marks also seem to vary depending on how much the lecturer likes you, I know people who have handed in virtually identical assignments and got wildly different marks with no explanation.
On the other hand, my girlfriend is at city campus and she loves the place. Her faculty (health studies) send out information in the post when it's needed, have approachable staff members and generally treat the students like equals. They bend over backwards to help, indeed her head of faculty intervened on my behalf when mine refused to authorise me for a student loan as I had an hour a week less than everyone else. I would say that the Met is an average university for computing, but good for other things, and it's situated in an excellent vibrant city. Make your own mind up!
Advantages: Superb Sport Facilities, Amazing NIght life and amazing friends Disadvantages: End of my uni life!
I came to Leeds Met to study sport and exercise science in 2002. I was attracted to the sports facilities and the relaxing setting of the headingley campus- buildings set surrounding an acre of grassland- really picturesque. Some people say that they come to Leeds Met beacuse they do not get into their first choice university, this for me was rubbish! i turned down an unconditional offer at loughbrough to study sports science here and i have not ... ...experiences of uni life and leeds met as a whole. This uni is reccommended A*!
I quite fancied Leeds anyway and as far as the city goes beacuse i had been on numerous shopping trips to the city and as far as helping you to spend your student loan on clothes and socialising I haven't been disappointed. The university campus at Headingley has helped aid my studies and my university life!
A little explanation about the met and its two campuses. There ...

Advantages: Good nightlife and cheap cost of living Disadvantages: Beer is not subsidised - disgraceful
Leeds Met is a former polytechnic university with a good reputation for business and also sport. The sporting facilities are amongst the best in the country and aside from that there are some very reasonably priced and well equipped gyms near the city centre as well. There are a number of good nightclubs around offering some good deals such as Planet Earth on a Wednesday night. There is also an excellent shopping centre with all major chain stores ...

...lot of people go to Leeds met because they didn't get into their first choice. I am one of those students. Everybody looks towards Leeds uni as being 'the' uni in Leeds and that the met is an ex polytechnic and many people don't look at it as a proper university but times are changing and this opinion is too. I am in my second year studying a languages degree and you know, i kind of glad i didn't get into the uni because after i compared the courses, ... ...Now I'm from Leeds originally so I can boast a little about what a great city Leeds is, how there are many individual shops as well as just about every high street shop you can think of. There are about a hundred bars and many clubs to suit every taste. Student nights, R 'n B, house, pop, cheese, hard house, they cater for everything. The main problem that my fellow students living in the student areas have unfortunately encountered is petty crime. ...

I am in my third year of a Secondary PE teaching, (by the way Headingley campus is for sport and education) and it is fantastic. Advantages: Good facilities Disadvantages: Cut down on money demands
[UPDATED*]
I came to leeds metropolitan university because, no other university would accept me. When i settled in, i wanted to pay my fees by direct debit (My sister was in leeds university and she paid by direct debit) the school didn't agree on this. Because i was an oversees student, i had to pay £6000. In my first year, i decided to pay half of the money in the first semester, and another half in the second semester. This i did but before i ... ...from the schools solicitors. This happened to me in my second year and i became quite fed up with their system. Are they after money or do they pursue education?
NB: They completed a multi million pound complex last summer. You can see why they are charging a ridiculus amount of money. ...

Advantages: Take anyone, good basic concepts Disadvantages: Stuck in the 80's, to the Met a Speccy is Cray like
LeedsMetropolitanUniversity is a strange place. I have just finished the second year of the above course and I don't mind telling you at times I feel like Michael J Fox in Back to the Future, travelling back to when Aha were a classy pop band and luminous green socks were acceptable items of clothing. As an example, we have not studied any web based things such as HTML, Javascript, Perl or CGI Scripting. Instead we have looked at.... Motorola 6800 programming! And the wonderful world of entity relationship diagrams. This year I studied the incredibly tedious specification language Z. For those not familiar with this, it's like a programming language which you CANNOT PROGRAM IN. You merely write the entire thing on paper in Z and then rewrite it in whatever language. I think you'll agree that this is far more useful than say learning ...
