Leffe, what more can I say, buy it. Leffe is sold in blond (Golden) and Brune (Brown) both are about 6.5%. They are sold in 330ml and 750ml bottles. It is an expensive beer but in supermarkets... more

The following two paragraphs may seem familiar as they are also the first two paragraphs from my review of Leffe Blonde. So, if you've already read that review, why not save yourself some time and skip them. If you haven't already read the aforementioned review then don't read this paragraph. Notre-Dame de leffe is a Norbertine abbey near the town of Dinant in the Namur region of Belgium. Beer was first brewed here in 1152 but they ceased the practice around the time of the French Revolution. In the 1950's, to raise funds for maintenance, the abbot allowed a local brewer to make their beer ... more

Advantages Advantages A great all-round performer, full bodied, full flavoured, deceptively strong, easily obtained in the UK

Disadvantages Disadvantages None but a weedy lager drinker's prejudices

Imagine the scene. We had come to the end of a delightful visit to Belgium. We had arrived at Brussels International Airport (Zaventem) in good time and as luck would have it we have membership of Priority Pass Club as a perk of our credit card. So, as we had an hour or so to spare we were able to explore the Executive lounge. As well as newspapers, cable television, showers and “conveniences” they provide complementary snacks, fruit and drinks. Being Belgium, one of these beers – in abundance – was Leffe Bruin 6. I had tried a bottle of two before and I was aware that at least one local ... more

I am a real lover of Belgian beer, and one of the first that I was introduced to was Leffe Brune. One of the 6 Leffe types (Brune, Blonde, Radieuse, Vieille Cuvée, Trupple, 9), it is also one of the most popular. It contains 6.6% ABV, so is stronger than your average 3-4% lager, though is served in a typical 330mil bottle instead of a pint (Though go to any Belgo Beirodrome and they'll happily serve it on tap!). Leffe, like any belgian beer, has it's own special glass - and let me tell you this, if you try and drink Leffe out of a normal beer glass, you aren't getting the fullest experience ... more

I love this stuff. When travelling in Northern Europe it's readily available in most bars, and is better than a lot of the beer offered (Jupiler or Stella). In France it is regarded quite highly as they have a taste for smooth, sweet malty beer, and this is much better than their own Adelscott or Pelforth. It is an Abbey beer by licence, the Abbey Notre Dame de Leffe hadn't produced any beer for years and didn't have the equipment to do so. In the 1950's they hired out their name to a local brewer, and then the brewery giant Interbrew bought the name. This is brewed less in line with tradition ... more

*** I was set a challenge in January 2006 by a friend, to drink 365 different beers in a year. I managed 503!! So i thoguth i would share some of my views. At the time I kept a record of all beers drunk, on which dates and how i rated them (out of 10) I still have the list. First of all let me explain before I did this I was very much a Lager drinker, Ales I didnt mind but i wasnt very fond of Bitters & Stouts. With this in mind; For Lager, anything above a 7 was good For Ale, anything above a 5 was good For Bitter & Stout anything above a 4 was good I'm happy to say my tastes are now much ... more
