It took me and my husband quite a while to help my son build it. But the end result was great.
It comes in one box. Within the box are smaller bags. All the bags are numbered and all have a booklet inside for the particular part of the police station/vehicle. None of the items were missing, there were a few bits over though, which come in handy for the lego box!
It is really easy to follow (for an adult), but I don't think my 8 year old would have had the knowledge or patience to build it himself. Some children his age probably could, but I'd say any child would probably need a bit of help from an adult. I think it's quite nice to have adult and child building something together anyway, so this isn't a disadvantage in my eyes!
My son has played lots with his police station and has bought the polie helicopter to go with it.
The only thing I find with larger items like this is when you want to move them. The base is a bit floppy. You need careful manouvering to move it about without it falling to bits. Also, our youngest son had been playing with it and some of the bits have come off and put back in the wrong place! (Younger children are a bit heavier handed so the bits do come off quite easy like this, his older brother not impressed!)
All in all, it is a great piece of toy for lego fans. You could always build it in different ways if you get bored with the layout of how it's meant to look, that's what I find handy with lego. Also, in time, it is inevitable that bits will get lost, but with lego you can always compromise and find bits to match from your lego box.
If your child likes lego and are into this kind of theme I'd say it was good value for money and recommend the item.
