Lego Star Wars 8089 Hoth Wampa Cave

This Christmas was a Lego filed one and thankfully I had saved up a lot of my Tesco Clubcard points to double up on toys which means that I was able to get a lot more of the rather expensive Lego than I would have without doing this. Of course this meant that I had tons of Lego to put together with the help of Jack.

This set of Star Wars Lego was one of the medium sized items and priced at £30. It seemed like a fair price to pay for what you actually get. The set comes with three little figures (Luke Skywalker, A Snowspeeder and Zev Senesca) and the Wampa ice creature along with the Wampa Ice Cave.

The set itself is for ages seven and over which again considering Jack is only 3 ½ is rather out of his age range but he is able to play with the set really well (no incidents of pieces of Lego up the nose! Touch wood) and he was able to help me put the Wampa Ice Cave together and build all the little men himself.

The Wampa Ice Cave was fairly easy to assemble and with the two of us working on it, did not take more than 30 minutes or so. Once put together the set looks pretty good and with all the other items of Star Wars Lego Jack has it makes a good play set. I don’t however think it is the best box set we could have thinking about it now I would have perhaps preferred to have purchased for the price and added a little bit more money to it and purchased a larger space ship type item.

The Wampa Ice Cave was not the sturdiest of items and it wasn’t long before it fell apart and had to be rebuilt. The design of the cave as a whole may look good but when playing is not the most practical. Of course putting it back together is really rather simple as the small instruction booklet that comes with the set is full of easy to understand diagrams which even Jack is now starting to be able to understand and follow through.

As with all Lego sets the pieces are all very well made and the single blocks on their own really are built to last. The set will still be worth a fair bit of money in years to come when Jack has out grown it so in my opinion it is the best thing you can get a child as it’s never going to get thrown out or end up broken and unusable.

Although I don’t think it is particularly the best piece of Star Wars Lego you could buy, it does have a lot of playability to it and Jack has played with it non stop since Christmas day (even if we have had to re-assemble it most days). I think Jack would be more than happy to award a top 5 out of 5 star award for it as he really does love it so much. However seeing as I am the one who is having to help put it together most days, I feel that this item could have been made so that it was a little sturdier and has less chance at falling apart with general play.

However that all said it is a nice little item at a fair reasonable price. Jack does really enjoy playing with it and it is a toy that should generally hold it value over the coming years. For all those reasons I feel that a 4 out of 5 star rating is a reasonable one and I will be giving it a recommendation to all Lego and all Star Wars fans!
