Advantages: many modes, not as big as SLRs Disadvantages: heavier/bigger than point and shoots
pointless to the average camera user who often thinks - 'why change it myself when i can let the camera do it' well the fact is that by manually altering the shutter speed and aperture value you can achieve some great styled shots which i have done with this camera such as movie style blurrs and 'smudged effects'.
The camera also has a continuous mode - very useful for capturing a sequence of shots quickly, this allows 1.2 frames to be shot per second, very good in comparison to other cameras.
On the same subject of modes, the camera also has a very easy to use menu whereby initially use can select pre-set modes for special occassions such as 'fireworks', stary nights or cloudy conditions, very easy to select but the differences in picture quality are tremendous.
The 10 mega pixels and 4x optical zoom also mean that in fact not matter ...

Advantages: from Studio direkt to CMYK, superior image quality Disadvantages: thetered camera, needs continuous light
This is Leica´s very first selfmade digital camera. With the LEICA S 1 Pro, Leica Camera, Solms, has managed to further increase the imaging quality and productivity of the digital studio camera. This increase in performance is achieved with a remarkable sensor which results in a maximum data quality at a high signal to noise ratio. This has a4-fold increase in light sensitivity, meaning that even critical photographic situations at low levels of illumination can be handled more effectively.
The photographer can use the modeling light of his or her existing studio flash equipment for taking the shots, for instance.
The new sensor - including Binning and Anti-flicker - provides a 14 Bit signal for red, green and blue colours which is processed in a 16 bit data path. This results in clean colours without noise
or blooming.

Advantages: fast operation Disadvantages: no info in viewfinder, bad CCD quality, operating time
I am a professional photographer and bought a Leica Digilux 1 in October 2002. Initially, I was pleased with the camera, it handled like a Leica M series film camera.
After a lot of tests in different lighting conditions, I came to the conclusion that the camera is not really suitable for the professional or serious amateur.
On the plus side, the Summicron lens is brilliant (although let down by the poor quality of the chip) and functions well.
The LCD screen is also large and easy to view and the cameras functions are easy to operate. It also works better at 'ISO' 100 - as the other settings produce more noise (which is a problem).
Unobtrusive and quick to use (the shutter actually fires when you press it without delay) it had the makings of a great camera, shame that Leica billed it as being almost useable for semi ...

The compact nature of the D-Lux 4 means it can be with you all the time. But despite its compact size, it offers top Leica quality and gives the photographer plenty of artistic freedom. The D-Lux 4 is ideal, whether for subjects composed with lots of forethought or for spontaneous reportage.
