...The Leica M6 is hardly an average compact camera. It is based on the famous leica rangefinder design. Leitz invented the 35mm camera and this is the latest incarnation of the rangefinder series. The build quality is amazing as the price would indicate. The main advantage is the ability to use the fantastic leica M series lenses. The lenses are so sharp and have excellent contrast that coupled with a virtually vibrationless camera body, photographs can reach a quality level that is normally reserved for medium format cameras. This camera is certainly not suitable for everybody. The price is restrictive and you would need to have a certain interest in photography, but the rewards can be very high....

Advantages: Ludicrously good value for money! Disadvantages: Not a compact
...you have to adjust it by pushing a rocker switch around the shutter, which isn't as fast or accurate. Ahem.
The optics (glass) in the lens is made by LEICA. Thats pretty much the Ferrari of glass, for those not in the know. For example; they make 1000GBP pairs of binoculars. It's probably not as high quality as the aformentioned binoculars, but Leicas B-grade stuff probably beats the living poop out of most companies A**** grade stuff. Advantages: Very good all round package Disadvantages: Cheaper to buy the Fuji MX 1700
...This is a complete clone of the Fuji MX1700 it has all the same buttons and the same accessories except the case.
Its a very good 1.5 mega pixel camera with easy to use comprehensive features, It comes with everything you need accept a case which Leica charge extra for. I do not think you can buy this new any more but as a second it would be agood buy.
The Leica is supplied with PhotoShop 5 LE which makes it nice to have just for that. The camera uses Smart Media 8MB which is upgradable if need be. Its macro is very good too with a shooting distance of 10cm.
This is the same as the Fuji 1700 so read my review of that and this camera has all those qualities but you will need to buy that case....
