I purchased this notebook after my old Fujitsu took a tumble down the stone steps outside my home 3 months ago, and I have to say that for the money, this is a great bit of kit.
Firstly its a core duo and my machine came with a fingerprint reader for added security as well as a dual layer DVD burner. An integrated web-cam and integrated blue-tooth and wireless connections.
Software included are 1 year subscription to Norton security suit, easy CD/DVD burner, lenovo support tools, soft-ex omnipass programme for fingerprint scanner. Diskeeper for defragmenting your hard drive and lots more.
I only needed to charge the battery when I first took the notebook out of the box, there was a minimal amount of setting up IE giving the notebook a name etc, but it was not difficult to do, the onscreen instructions were foolproof.
The lid of the notebook houses the integral web-cam in the centre just above the wide-screen display. The keyboard is a standard layout and the keys feel good to use. The mouse is a touch pad with a left and right button underneath. Finally, in the bottom right corner under the keyboard is the fingerprint scanner which is controlled with the omnipass software. Once activated to can only access your computer using an authorized finger scan.
There are 4 USB ports, a HDMI slot and other standard connections, also a digital card reader is included. Bluetooth and wireless functions can be turned on and off via a switch on the front of the notebook. If you have an LCD TV or monitor, you can hook this up via the connection on the back, cables for this need to be purchased.
Support and updates are accessed by pressing the Lenovo Care button, or through the start menu, the help function is a very good source of info should you need it.
The thing that impressed me the most, is how accessible the internal components are, for instance, I recently upgraded my memory to around 1 1/2 gig, and all I had to do was use open the small trapdoor underneath of the notebook and install the memory. There is also a door for the hard drive as well.
All in all I am very pleased with this notebook it does all that I ask of it and it does not complain. Its light and small, very practical when on the move.
One of its downfalls however are the poor speakers, very tinny get yourself a good set of PC speakers. Oh and I am not a fan of the recovery software being installed on the hard drive as seems to be the norm theses days, I prefer A separate CD/DVD recovery disc. Although you can opt to make a set of recovery discs which will take up around 6 Cd's. I cant comment on battery life as I tend to use mine plugged into the mains most of the time.
For the money its a great bit of kit with a lot of extras. Would I consider buying from Lenovo in the future, well I think would.
