It has to be mentioned that the Lenovo G550 can be purchased with different amounts of memory and RAM, my model has a 500GB hard drive and 4GB RAM, i purcahsed mine from "Save on Laptops" for a very reasonable £400.

positives

The Lenovo G550, has a matt finish which is excellent as it looks proffesional and is less likely to scratch - which for many people is important. I have owned my now for about two months and so far it has been a pleasure to use. The first time set up was very simple as it comes with Windows 7, andd it boots up at a reasonable speed.
Futhermore the LED Backlight screen quality is above standard for this price range, and the keypad is very comfortable to type on. For many people a number pad is important and this is one af the few laptops that ahs one, which is another bonus.
The 500Gb hard drive on my model, gives me plenty of space to store all my media files, and the 4gb of RAM (Which has already been expanded on, so it cannot be made any bigger than this) makes it fairly speedy to use, rarely do i notice any lag and applications load reasonable quickly.
On top of this, there are some good extra features such as an integrated Web Cam, Dvd rewriter, and 3 usb ports which make the whole experience of using the laptop much more fulfilling and convinient.

drawbacks

It has to be said that although this is an excellent laptop, for the price there are a few drawbacks. In my experince the Battery Life is not the best if you have the laptop on its optimum settings, and are say watching films, i get about 4 hours on the best settings, so i often resort to the mains supply. In my experience you should not expect to be able to play Top end games as the graphicsIntegrated (Intel® GMA X4500 3D Graphics with Upto 1759MB Shared Memory) and vdeo card are not the best.
The Wireless connection is built in which is good as there is no need for and adaptor, however it is only WIreless G connection which is slightly slower than the more up to date WIreless N connection which you often find in more expensive laptops, however this has been a particular problem for me.
The final downside, which is only a problem if you want to connect it to you High Def Tv is that there is no HDMI connection. Only a VGA port, which in my opinion is sufficient.

overview

All in all, this is a great entry level laptop and in my opinion exceeds others in the price range, and would definetly reccommed it. However, it is still only an entry level so if you are looking for something more up market and powerful, this may not be the laptop for you.

Good review however some more information which readers may find useful is some details on the Processor speed and type, wether there is a graphics card and what type this is, does it have wireless features, how many usb and ethernet slots etc . If you add more to your review at some point let me know and I'll come back and have another look and re-rate accordingly for you. Good first review xx
