Advantages IBMs past record

Disadvantages Poor choice of graphics port

I've got one of these, in fact I'm writing this review on it right now. I bought it for £200 at my local auctions 2 years ago (14th Feb 2007 to be exact) & I'm still getting great use out of it. It looks sleek with its all black case, keyboard & mouse.

It's really easy to do upgrades on as it requires no tools to open the case or remove any parts. I upgraded the dvd-rom in mine to a rewriter & it took minutes to do & was as quick to get running & burning with.

It might not have a super high powered graphics card but the on-board chip handles games pretty well. I've been able to play both Quake 4 & Half Life 2 at fairly decent speeds.

The port to fit a graphics card is a slightly annoying issue as it's intended for a standard PCI card & I was expecting to find an AGP port but I guess thats the price you pay for buying what was only ever intended to be a business machine. On-board sound is very good, the 1gb of RAM that comes as standard is more than enough for what I use it for.

It runs on Windows XP Professional (but I was annoyed that they didn't supply back-up cd's or dvds for any of the software on the machine) & it runs plenty quick enough for my liking, also handling all my peripherals through its 6 usb ports (though the 4 at the back are badly placed, I'd rather see sockets on 1 side of the case).

Its a nice machine, the Lenova badged name might confuse those who don't know IBM changed their trading name. I'd recommend it or its successors. Its a reliable workhorse that will keep on going.

Update:- I thought it was worth mentioning the machine has had a few other upgrades since I wrote this review. It now has a dedicated 128mb graphics card that wasn't super easy to install but now gives excellent image quality, the dvd-rewriter was replaced a few days ago (today is 14th April 2010) and the mouse needed to be replaced as it didnt take too kindly to being unscrewed & cleaned which I found odd but the new mouse is also USB & installed in a matter of seconds.

The machine is STILL going strong with no signs of any real major issues, I highly doubt I'll be replacing it in the immediate future.
