Advantages: Records to DVD's, Very fast Disadvantages: No bells and whistles
...--------------
The cost of the recorder is £80 in PC World at the moment. The cost of disks is about £25 for a pack of 10 (either format). However, there are some on half price at PC World, the DVD + will record at 2.4x and – at 1x speeds. Like I said, this is still stupendously fast.
Also remember that 1 box of 10 is probably enough to store your entire hard drive. My hard drive will fit on 6 disks if it’s full and compressed. That’s 40GB across 6 disks! I think that’s astounding!
Plus it will write your entire hard drive to the disks in about 2 hours! That’s at the 2.4x speed that the cheap disks come at! Personally, I can’t believe how fast it is and had to triple check that my 1 disk backup of my 4GB of work had actually taken place and hadn’t failed without it telling me, thus why it was so fast. Advantages: Good quality, nice price, oooh a spindle Disadvantages: same as most dvd-rw's

Reliability…
In my CD-R review I mentioned errors while burning CDs, and errors while burning DVDs was pretty much mandatory for me, until I started using these. I have only ever come across 2 errors, and they were my fault anyway for opening the drive in the middle of burning. Before I bought a DVD-RWdrive, I used to make VCDs most of the time, as they were quick and easy. But since I have been using these, there is no need for VCDs as the discs give me no trouble at all.
Use…
Obviously...

Advantages: Fast and reliable Disadvantages: Screen could be better, not the best design
...I have had my laptop now for just over a month and I am now ready to report on my findings.
I will say at the start that this was supplied to me from my insurance company, rather than by choice. I was assured that it was a like for like replacement for my Toshiba. (evidently in the world of insurance Toshiba and Lenovo are spelt the same?). Needless to say the chances of me renewing my policy with them are somewhere between sweet FA and Nil.
However rant and rage over with here are my opinions and observations of the R61 thinkpad.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
-------------------------------
When I first opened the box, my first impression was "Oh my god!, it's come from the Lada car factory. The design has all the finesse of a 1980's house brick mobile phone. Although I had seen the Lenovo name around, I had not linked it to the IBM brand...
