E74 is OK

Advantages: Functional, Works!
Disadvantages: Nothing apart from being a CRT and being BIG

The E74 from IBM really isn't anything special. A large, beige box with a clear, sharp display and five buttons to access the digital tuning menu to be precise. Legend has it that this model is also available in black for you aesthetes! The digital menu contains all of the functions one has come to expect, including the option to change the language in which the menus are written. Navigating between menu items is relatively simple using the arrow buttons and it should not take you too long to get the picture set up to your liking. At the rear of the unit is the power jack (standard kettle lead) and a 15 pin VGA lead fitted. There are no other inputs meaning that this is a one-PC-one-monitor setup. The picture output of the display is relatively good, but in the day of the TFT, CRT monitors such as this are falling in popularity ...

Review of IBM E 74

Even less than it looks...

Advantages: Bang for buck, specs and features
Disadvantages: active matrix

Lenovo ThinkVision L192 has been in my use for a year now and I cant say anything else to it: It is amazing... Sleek design of black and anodized aluminum combined with state of the art technology results in a mouthwatering candy for casual users and gamers. Well, I have tested this monitor with different applications and I can rest assured that this monitor lives up to its stats. Compared to a 17" widescreen that has the same stats, the 19" seems much more natural to the eyes and does not stress them... Plus the 5 ms refresh rate ensures smooth and flawless motion. 300 candela per square meter might be somewhat stressful to the eyes but during daytime, it ensures good quality... 800:1 contrast gives more natural and pleasant color and looks, to me, even more appealing. Somewhat not good is the active matrix feature. After I ...

Review of Lenovo ThinkVision L192

Lenovo

Advantages: Built in webcam. fingerprint recognition that works, good customer support.
Disadvantages: Slightly sluggish compared to some higher end machines.

has a built in modem. The display is clear, but the speaker quality is quite poor. I have fitted external speakers to get around this. Living with it: I do find the Lenovo is slightly slower to boot up than my Dell. This could be down to many factors, particular as the whole family has a log on and we have the fingerprint recognition turned on. The fingerprint scanner is a nice feature. It comes with some software that allows you to pre-fill known websites with your details (e.g. Ciao, Hotmail etc.) and every time you go to that website it asks you to scan your finger. One scan populates the ID and password fields and also simulates hitting the enter button! Cool!! The built in web cam is fine, although not as good as some external ones I have seen. The pre-installed software is fine. I think I may have a problem ...
