The Demon's Lexicon - My favourite new character this year

Advantages: Suspenseful, funny, great characters, and great plot twists
Disadvantages: None.

The Demon's Lexicon focuses on two half-brothers, Alan and Nick. It is told from the perspective of the younger brother, Nick, who is sixteen and studying for his GCSEs. He also keeps a sword under the sink and dances to summon demons. They've both been on the run their whole lives, ever since Nick's mother stole a charm from the most feared magician in Britain. Then two kids from Nick's school, Jamie and Mae, show up asking for help. Jamie's been marked by a demon, and the only way to save him from immediate death is to transfer half the mark onto Alan. Alan is the only person in the world Nick trusts and cares about, but the mark leaves him in danger from the magicians. The four of them set out to find a way to defeat the most powerful magician in Britain, and save Alan and Jamie. I suspect Nick is going to be a Marmite ...

ASTONISHING! BRILLIANT! CLASSIC!

Advantages: Timeless pop classics, great lyrics, vocals and orchestration
Disadvantages: None

Released in 1982, The Lexicon of Love by ABC is one of the few real classic albums to emerge from the 80s pop scene. Many others, that sold in their millions at the time, now sound dated, but The Lexicon of Love sounds as fresh and exciting now as it ever did and has not been damaged by the passing of time. If you had to pigeonhole ABC, they would probably fall most comfortably into the New Romantic category, although they were less about frilly shirts and make-up and more about glamour, glitz and gold lame suits! Although they released other albums, none quite reached the classic status afforded by this one (their 1987 single ?When Smokey Sings? was the only one to ever really recapture the feel of ?The Lexicon of Love?. Produced by Trevor Horn, who definitely has the midas touch when it comes to production, the album has ...

My Horny Valentine

Advantages: Poptastic Trevor Horn production.
Disadvantages: Not a good Valentine's Day present.

straight in at the top spot on June 29th, 1982, staying there for three-and-a-half weeks. OK, four, but the fourth week it TIED for the number one position with the soundtrack to Fame, I believe this was the only instance of a tie at number one, although there was one week in October 1979 when Blondie and the Police both had the number one album because two charts were published due to a "change in chart collation".The Lexicon of Love was also rated the 4th best album of the 1980's by Record Mirror magazine, behind Sign O' The Times by Prince, Actually by the Pet Shop Boys and The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths. I know everything you know. The Digitally Remastered CD I picked up at an irresistable price last year includes six extra tracks:- TEARS ARE NOT ENOUGH (Demo) An impressive, funky demo, well on the way to the finished version ...
