We have this printer for few years. It is almost like an old friend. What can I say good about Lexmark Z55? 1) Very solid, no problem. It does what it is supposed to do. 2) Affordable. It cost us around £49 four years ago. 3) Versatile. I print texts and photos. I also use it for making cards and printing addresses on envelopes. Lovely. 4) Quick. 5) Likes cheep paper (I buy from tesco for £4.99 100 sheets 100gr)
Anything negative? 1) Ink cartridges are costly. It takes 2 cartridges. Black will cost you around £29. Colour cartridge will be around £34. If you are thinking to print lots of photos you will need to buy cartridges quite often. I tried to buy cartridges on e-bay. Normally I pay £14 for black and £16 for colour one (delivery included). I still founds it expensive. Especially when you can order prints at Tesco or Boots for 7p each (4"x6") 2) at the at the age of 3 years it gets occasionally in a stripy mood. Some photos come out with stripes (looks like lines across the pictures) Not acceptable and frustrating.
OVERVIEW: It is only good if you have a friend in cartridge's business or you use a printer not on regular basis. It's not a good value for money if you are planning to print regularly especially photos. In this case get more expensive printer such as Epson Stylus or Epson Photo. If you are thinking to print just texts get a printer with cheaper cartridges. Or get friendly with some one from cartridge shop. WARNING: would not recommend to use refilled cartridges or compatible one for this model. They might ruin your printer.
