When the time came to send my Lexmark printer to the knackers' yard, I thought that an all in one machine would be the most economical choice! Since being happy for a number of years with my Lexmark printer I had know hesitation in purchasing another product from them! The reason I went for the X1180 model was it was the cheapest at the time and most importantly looked uncomplicated to use!
Design
When it arrived and I took it out of the box I was mildly pleased with the size (not as bulky as I thought it would be) but saying that it has a height of 16.3 cm and a depth of 30.8 cm which unless you've got a lot of space, which luckily I have, then it may not be practical for people with limited space. The machine itself looks stylish, a nice grey finish and only 5 buttons (I always think that the more buttons there are, the more complicated it's going to be to use)! The 5 buttons consist of:- Power button Paper feed Scan Color copy Black copy
In The Box
All the leads you would need to connect it to the computer as well as a picture only diagram sheet showing you in 12 steps how to set the thing up and an installation software CD ROM! A trial pack of Premium glossy photo paper and the service and guarantee booklet Please note this all in one has a USB connection and therefore your computer will have to have a spare USB port to connect it up!
Setting Up
The diagrams were easy to understand and it only took me a couple of minutes to get it all connected up, the installation software was also easy to set up as it told you what to press every step of the way!
Features
There is a maintenance section and a how to section ( how to copy, print, scan, fax and an interesting project section which shows you how to create photos, envelopes, cards, iron on transfers and many more! There is also a photo editor software program on the disc which allows you to alter colors in the photo, as well as cropping the image and a very useful red eye remover to get that devilish look out of your eyes. As well as this there is a troubleshooting section which takes you through checking connections, cartridges, pronblems with quality, scanning e.t.c. A very useful maintenance page covers how to install a new cartridge, troubleshooting ink problems and other such issues.
Other bits of info
The all in one comes with 2 cartridges to get you started, one no.27 color cartridge and one no. 17 black cartridge. Both of which can be purchased for around £15 on Amazon and the cartridge People. The printer can take around 100 sheets of paper at any one time, any more than this and I find it starts to jam. On the printing side you expect it to print around 6ppm of excellent quality prints that look almost like the original document.
Overall Opinion
I have been very satisfied with the quality of it's prints, scans and photo copying, but it is a little on the slow side at times when in printing mode, just a small thing really! Also don't rely too much on the cartridge status, it's currently telling me that both the color cartridge and the black one are full when I know that's not true as I've been using the printer rather a lot lately! I tend to find that both the cartridges last for just under 2 months with heavy usage, but this can vary depending on what you will be mainly using it for!
All in all I would highly recommend this Lexmark X1180 to anyone wishing to purchase an all in one!!!!

My task was to copy the 12 pages that were all colour print and some with photographs on and then print 50 copies of each. I dragged the equipment out of the box and got on with it. As the paper was poor quality I did not print to the ...

Advantages: Really good scanner Disadvantages: Bulky and slow sometimes
...to the supplied software, the Lexmark All-In-One center. It\'s slow and really consumes computer power, and has a habit of lying about the amount of ink left, but it gives you plenty of options. And the scan-editing software that comes with it is very good, and is now my default photo editor. The X1180 is ideal for first time buyers of all-in-one printers, who want to use it every now and then. Not fantastic for daily usage. ...

Advantages: low-priced all in one; excellent scanning Disadvantages: print quality
...replacement for both a different Lexmark inkjet printer purchased in a sale, and a parallel port scanner, and so far it serves extremely well as an all-in-one. In any case it does mean you have one spare socket to play with.
I've found no fault with the scanner at all; it scans incredibly well and very quickly. You can use the scanning facility as a fax machine or photocopier, and even allows OCR, but I haven't tried any of these.
Printing, on ... ...problem synonymous with the old Lexmark printer was lines appearing in the printout.
The good thing is that printing is quite fast; I'd estimate about 8 ppm for black and white, and maybe 5 ppm in colour.
I would probably be better off with a laser printer, or higher end inkjet, but this printer is very good for the money. If you're going to buy a printer, you could do much worse things than give this consideration. ...

...set up instructions. The Lexmark 1180 came with a quick start instruction leaflet which was easy to follow and did what it said on the tin - easy, even for me.

I can only find two disadvantages to this printer. 1. Print cartridges are expensive and even the heavier use cartridges don't seem to last long. It is worth shopping around and using the draft print option as much as possible as the quality of print here is adequate for most requirements.
2. This is a big printer compared to other models and does not fit easily, if at all, on all of those dinky computer desks available. It is not however ...

Advantages: ...it prints things Disadvantages: not very good at printing
It's two in the morning and here I am, trying to recall my experiences with this printer which is now solemnly placed behind my bed after about a year of use. It has now been replaced with the robust, but equally frustrating, LexmarkX1180.
This is your very basic inkjet printer, which takes both colour and black cartridges. I bought this on "sale" at PC World, thinking I had found a bargain, but there were a couple of problems:
1. The required USB cable was not included, as the other chap who reviewed this pointed out, which meant forking out another £10;
2. Only a colour cartridge was included; if I wanted the privilege of being able to print black, I'd have to buy a separate cartridge. Luckily I picked one up on "sale" also. (Actually someone just tore the box.)
To begin with the printer wasn't bad at all. On a full set ...
