Behold the Lexmark 5150. In my opinion the best value All-in -one on the market. When i first got into PC's (about 15 years ago) the range of printers were, to say the least, few and far between, with the only option really being the dot matrix or having to hand write!! These beasts were very noisy and slow and had limited memory. Then along came inkjet (i know there was laser printing, but still too expensive for joe public)....vastly superior and had the latest technology allowing more memory to be incorporated (ie freeing up the PC but transferring it over to the printer buffer). This is when i bought my first 'state of the art' printer.. the HP 420c deskjet and could print about 4 colour pages a fortnight and had a tendency to jam if using paper more than 100 gsm/m², very annoying if you are relying on multiple copies whilst doing something else around the house!! Plus the price of the relatively small cartridges are still around £30!! Then there are scanners, i also owned a UMAX 2000. Perfectly acceptable, bustill relatively slow and VERY bulky. I needed a cheap alternative and then came the age of the 'Combo'. Being on a VERY tight budget after upgrading my PC, i was looking for something in the region of £120. So i trotted off to my local electrical store. There was Canon (too expensive), HP (cartridges too small and expensive for my liking) and a relative unknown in my mind; Lexmark.. I went home and did the research and was amazed with the specification and price of cartridges!! · Around £110 (shop around) · 16 copies per minute (cpm) in black (draft) · 11 cpm in colour (draft) · Photo quality prints · Stand alone copier, with choices such as black copy, colour copy, enlage, reduce and picture quality adjust! (PC doesn't even have to be on!) · 48 bit colour scanning, 12 bit greyscale · 4800 x 1200 dpi (dots per inch) · Fax facility (software included) · Scanning options: scan to file; to e-mail; to software · User friendly · Lightweight · Quiet and efficient · Elegant design · Volume of ink indicator when printing · Cost of cartridges around £28 · At the moment (12/03) free DVD offer
In my opinion, i won't need another printer for a long time and if i do change Lexmark will be my choice. Excellent buy!!
