We were looking for buying a fax machine for our home office after the trusty 12 year old Sharp fax packed up. I normally do not like combos like 'three in one' or 'all in one'. In an old fashioned way, I still believe one machine is good for one thing! But in the fast and ever-changing world of technological advancement - I have decided to change my view. I decided to buy an all in one and give it a go.
Lexmark 7350 is - 3 rather 4 -in- one printer, copier, scanner and fax machine. The product specification will tell you most of the details and I am not repeating them here. It prints at a speed up to 19ppm (page per minute) colour print speed- very fast for a home use and amazingly there is not much noise. When printing in one colour or black it is much faster- up to 25ppm - what is technically defined as 'mono print speed'. Do not be alarmed, if you are printing 10 pages- it prints 10th page first, then 9-8-7 etc. I was not prepared for this- and tried to stop it the first time!
The machine can hold up to 100 sheets of paper. The printing quality is also very good - 4800 x 1200dpi. You are able to print at 4 quality- draft, normal, good and super! The names may be slightly different- you know what I mean. The machine has what they call as a 'PictBridge' support - prints photos without a PC. Pictbridge port is in front of the machine with easy access. It is able to print A6 and A4 size photos. In our previous Epson printer photos were of reasonable quality, but size setting was a problem. I found it much easy on this one. It also prints photos with or without borders. With the LCD display you will be access the menu, print qualities and functions and choose the one you want.
The machine also has a flatbed scanner. The scanning quality was good for paper, photos and objects (like a piece of jewellery). If you wish to know details- it has 1200 x 2400dpi scan resolution and a 48-bit depth. I honestly do not know what 'depth' is? Any one knows? Please let me know.
The copier function works well. It is able to copy up to 24ppm copy speed. We have tried up to 10 pages at a time, was ok. You will be able to copy with up to 400% enlargement. You do not have to connect to computer for copying.
The machine is able to receive faxes efficiently. Remember- it is not a phone just a fax receiver. It has a 50 sheet feeder; we have received faxes up to 10 pages long, and were a good readable quality. If you run out of paper it has a 160 page memory.
The machine could be connected to your PC or Laptop with a USB wire - or you could buy a separate wire if you wish to connect to a different kind of port. Lexmark installation disc and software was quite easy to install, steps were quite clear.
The machine is compatible with: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP 32-bit and 64-bit: Pentium II (223MHz), 128Mb RAM, 800Mb HD space. The size of the all in one is H- 25.4cm, W- 44.8cm, D- 37.9cm and weight is 7.1kg. It is a nice charcoal and silver colour, fits with most décor.
Replacement cartridges could be expensive up to £28. Generic ones cost around £18 when purchased on internet. Cost is around £110- varies in different shops.
It is on sale at Argos for £90, with a mini shredder. The shredder works ok as well. My son has used it for shredding his old exercise books and my old credit cards! Still - working.
We have used this machine for about six weeks, no problems yet, if I do have one will post it here.
Good review.
Lexmark printers are good and reliable - the only problem is the ridiculous cost of the cartridges. The answer? - get an ink refill kit - will fill a cartridge 5 times for about £8 instead of about £140.
BTW - bit depth is to do with how many shades of colour the scanner can read. It sends information as bits (1s and 0s) to your computer.
