Advantages: Fast efficient clear printing Disadvantages: Two cartridges, uses fair amount of ink.
...don't know the official rate Lexmark publish with the bumpf,(the machine had been installed and all boxes taken away whilst I was at work.) But the black only prints do come off at a rapid rate, as illustrated above! (Around 7 seconds for a full page of text)
Obviously, colour prints take a little longer but these do not dwell either. I have found a full colour poster I have created for fundraising purposes will print in around 40 seconds. ...Cartridges

We did not have much choice with this piece of hardware, as it was part of a package bought through a catalogue. But boy, if we had a choice, this would be near the top of the list! Our dear family have only had the privilige of using Canon printers before. These were OK and of a similar design, but you could only install one ink cartridge at a time in those, so for example, if you wanted to print a letter, you put the black one in and then had to change it if you then wanted to print a picture. Anyway, this op is about the Lexmark, not my printer history!
Appearance ----------------- Its black, its grey and its compact! It will fit neatly at the side of a workstation or, if like me, you have installed a monitor shelf, it fits neatly the width of a 16" monitor and gives your computer area new height!
Features ------------- The Z615 model loads the paper in from the rear, something you have to consider if you think about putting in on a shelf underneath your workstation. The ON button is located on the top surface of the machine to the right hand side. One delicate touch whirrs the printerhead to standby and a bright vivid shade of green illuminates said button. Another quick delicate press reverses this process! A space saving paper collection tray is located on the front near the slot where your printed work emerges from the impression of ink onto paper. If you pull on the middle of the front, the said hidden feature reveals itself and provides an area for the printed work to sit and dry slightly. Be quick though, as I found to my cost! The first time I used it and remembered to pull the tray out, the printer was a bit quick in printing the letter and the document shot up my arm and rested there! To service the cartridges is really easy! Ensuring the printer is on, lift the flap at the front of the printer. The cartridges will then emerge and rest in the middle of the generous opening created by lifting the flap. To change the cartridges, just lift the retaining clip and lift fully. This will lift the cartridge slightly to make it easier to remove. The cartridge would then just lift out and can be replaced. It is not tricky to insert the cartridges, but be careful as the chip on the cartridge may be damaged if forced in.
Rate of Printing ---------------------- I don't know the official rate Lexmark publish with the bumpf,(the machine had been installed and all boxes taken away whilst I was at work.) But the black only prints do come off at a rapid rate, as illustrated above! (Around 7 seconds for a full page of text) Obviously, colour prints take a little longer but these do not dwell either. I have found a full colour poster I have created for fundraising purposes will print in around 40 seconds.
Quality ---------- No problems on this front. A very high standard is achieved by this printer in whatever project you decide to print. To avoid smudging though, it is best to leave the colour projects for at least 30 seconds before touching them. Better than with the old Canon printer I used to have, and just enough time before the next full colour page emerges from printing.
Ink Cartridges --------------------- This Lexmark Z615 uses two cartridges that are installed side by side. Both cartridges must be in the printer for it to function. otherwise your print manager gets mad and keeps flashing up on the screen! We use the original Lexmark cartridges but are aware that there are 'reconditioned' cartridges available. For black ink, use the Lexmark 17 cartridge which we have found retailing around £14.95 For colour ink, it is the Lexmark 27 cartridge that you require, retailing around £16.95 Compared to the Canon cartridges we used to buy, this is real value for money, but we have found that ink usage is rapid. We do use the printer regularly and this is a good reason for ink usage (!) but we are having to replace the cartridges more regularly than before. Granted, the cartridges are a little smaller than the Canon ones, but the Canon one (Colour only as we could only use one at once) was used for colour and black and white projects.
The cartridges can be re-used, although I do not know about refilling them yourself. I think they need the chip resetting on them, but the far easier way is to pop them in a printer cartridge recycling envelope that you normally find near the cartridges in the high street shops. I know that WHSmith have an envelope, and Tesco have one where they donate to charity for each cartridge returned. You can choose whether to donate the full amount (£1.00 per cartridge) to the charity(or charities) printed on the envelope, or donating half to the charity and the other half would be added to your clubcard but only if you give them your clubcard number in the space provided! Small footnote here, they are unable to recycle Epson cartridges, just in case you use those!
Overall ---------- I must admit that I never before considered buying Lexmark, but would now heartily recommend them to anyone who needs a new printer. Sleek and contrasting to normal hardware being grey and black in colour, easy to use and maintain, and the replacement cartridges are reasonably priced. Can be connected by either PS-2 or USB (we have the latter) and will definately run on Windows XP. I would guess it is compatible with most operating systems but all this info was thrown away on the box before I could register it in my archaic brain! I have seen this model recently in a couple of supermarkets for just £39.99 which, I have found for a Lexmark, is pretty good, either that or better models have followed it out of the production line and technology has changed so fast that they need to get these off the shelf to make way for the new ones!
I would buy one of these again if they are still available if I require a new printer but I have definately been converted to Lexmark printers.
Advantages: very cheap! Great looks, Prints well Disadvantages: Rather expensive cartridges
...text for invoices. My other Lexmark was not printing them in black, it was coming out more green so I set off to find a new printer:)
This seemed great. It had its own black cartridge to ensure crisp black text and also a colour. It was only 14 Pounds in Wilkinsons WOW! When I got the printer home I opened the box and inside was:
The printer
A colour cartridge
A black cartridge
Power cord
And instructions.
The USB cord is not included.... ... ...In the software supplied by Lexmark there are some handy features, Such as printer head cleaning - Used to clean any dried ink from the cartridge. There are also many other cleaning and performance enhancing programs inside.
Even though the printer is not descibed as a photo printer I have printed a few phones on 4 x 6 Paper. It did a great job! I was very suprised. The quality of the picture was great. It came out a bit streaky on the normal print ...

Advantages: V. cheap (but I expect better for the price) Disadvantages: Doesn't suck paper in (when it does, doesn't properly)
...This is not the only Lexmark (we have bought more expensive models aswell) we have bought, and they all have some basic design faults.
Picture quality:
Using brand cartidges, pictures were poor, even on full quality using the right paper (that does not mean any bog standard photo paper).
Printing speed:
It's not fast, even on low quality black and white (which should be draft quality - due to using black cartridge only rather than using a little ... ...get an HP or Epson. Lexmark make rubbish printers at low prices
Be warned, Dell inkjets (and SOME of 'their' lasers) are re-branded Lexmarks. Not that you should buy something from Dell anyway - don't go on about why, they are all very very poor. It is now cheaper to build your own, it wasn't a year or two ago, but it is again. You will get a much better computer.
If you do decide to get this (you would be unwise to do so) I recommend you get a ...

Advantages: Looks Great, Small foot area, Price, Print Quality Disadvantages: Bit flimsy, Speed, No USB cable
After my decrepit old Epson decided not to print one day i decided it was time i go look for a new printer. Being a student, which means being on a budget, i had to find something with fair printing at a good price. After scouring the web for reviews, and finding a ton of bad ones but not very many good ones, i was undecided if i should buy this printer. But after a trip to comet to find there cheapest printer at £50 i was soon persuaded to go to ... ...the offer of a free USB cable!!
On opening the box i found that there was only a few parts, which meant one thing, less time putting the thing together and more printing time. The one thing i was disappointed about, but not bothered about, was the lack of USB cable. I don't know why printers don't come with them. Just seems a rip off when you've just bought a printer that should work straight out of the box. The printer does come with instructions ...

Advantages: small initial outlay - about £25 Disadvantages: reliability, price of ink
...Asda when I saw the Lexmark Z615. Well under 30 quid for what seemed a pretty decent spec - 14 ppm black, 8 ppm colour, 4800x1200 dpi - all seemed okay. So I dusted off my trusty wallet and forced open the rusty zip. So to home…
Right then. Just install the printer, get the assignment printed and posted off and the deadline is toast. Then I realised that I needed a USB lead, and had none spare (it does say this on the box, but I hadn't noticed as ... ...in every language under the sun (other than Manx, I notice)). Nooooooo! Run down stairs, run to car, run back to house to get car keys, run to car, shoot off to PC World (obeying all speed restrictions, of course), sprint to USB leads, elbowing startled shoppers out of the way and muttering "I'm on Trigger Happy TV" to them by way of apology, dash to checkout, throw a tenner at the startled young man there, sprint to car, drive home (obeying all ...

Advantages: cheap cartridges, easy to set up Disadvantages: none
i have only just purchased this inject printer about a week ago.I chose it becasue i loved the sleek, stylish design of it, and the fact that the ink cartridges for it are cheaper (around £8-£10), compared to the old lexmarkz615 that i had (£10-£15).
It was very easy to install, and for once i didnt find that there was a tree for a manual, and was just a large piece of double sided paper with clear instructions with pictures. The cartridges did need a bit of fiddling to get them in. They seem to be full cartridges, and not like that half full ones that you often get supplied with new printers.
It dosnt come supplied with the usb cable, but luckerly i hadnt thrown the one away from the old printer, which was the correct one.
I would definatly recommend this printer for anyone looking for a cheap printer (only cost £20 from Argos) ...
