It was inevitable.
Our old printer was also cheap and after less than 2 years of use, died on us. Not being in the position to purchase a stonking professional ultra expensive model, and we certainly didn't have the time to spend the entire day trawling through mind numbingly exhaustive shops with a grumpy husband to aquire one. But I was determined to find a bargain that would somehow be of at least equal quality ideally superior quality,-to our old one, (Lexmark Z65) without the need to take out a mortagage, thanks very much!.... but WHERE- WHICH -and WHY dominated my thoughts as we finally pushed open the door of Staples 2 hours later , resolving if we didn't find what we were looking for here-then we'd quit looking for the day. Choice was not THAT overwelming really- not when one has only peanuts to rub together that is!
S0- which one would be the "less of the evils"? Undaunted, we scoured the shop for the cheapest one we could find that didn't look as if it would fall apart the minute we got it home.....
THE LEXMARK DESKTOP PRINTER: Z735.
And there it was. Found at last....
On the floor in its box with the sign bargain sale on it. Priced at: £29.99.....That'll do nicely! we both choroused at the salesman endeavouring to flog us the most expensive looking printer known to man and beast...
Had we known PC world which is closer to us and was a mere penny cheaper in store- OR,on the PC World internet website we could have bought it for nearly £6 cheaper at £23.99 GRRR!...but no matter...what's done is done. I can't abide the farting around waitin gfor the thing to turn up..internet fraud etc etc...nah! Not for this gurl.
We threw the usual never ending questions one does at the poor man..
Is it simple to use? Yes. Are the replacement cartridges expensive? No. And Best of all as far as were concerned: It takes just ONE cartridge! Anther: Yay! colour and black combined!! (unlike our old model -which took 1 black-1 colour...and many of the newer flaming posher types with the no less than FOUR Ink cartridges... getting better by the minute we thought. We both growled our appreciation and relief.
We use mainly text for printing out- so the fact that the photo and picture quality isn't that great, doesn't really bother us. Obviously if you do more picture and photo printing then this is NOT the model for you.
Yay!!! My husband punched the air in delight making an elderly woman nearby jump out of her skin in the process....another plus- the cartridges are nearly £10 cheaper than our old one, too!
Errm...How noisy is this? I asked peering at the contents inside the box.
Not noisy at all madam. was the helpful reply.
The box said it would print up to 15 pages in both black and colour within 1 minute - to which the salesman's honest response was: "That's a lie!" (When we got the thing home we had a go...it took about a minute and a half, to print 10 depending on how much was on the paper,of course. But that hasn't put us off. It's a sleek quiet little number, and the cartridges are around £12.99 from staples so obviously it would be considerably less if you recycle/shop around, and it comes with a full cartridge (unlike some Staples sells) and it lasts comparably-about an average length of time though I have found the ink level dips fast. I've also found that the picture quality is a little green in hue. Not very nice-but the little machine is very compact and fits nicely in the allotted space much better again than our old one.
The machine itself has smooth compact lines is oblong shaped ,with a simple On Off press button at the top..2 thin plastic loading trays to hold the printed pages and just 1 aligned paper slot. As I've mentioned previously whilst printing it is smooth and quiet. Our old printer used to make such a racket and was definately slower.
The ink cartridges to replace are not the cheapest but neither are they the most expensive, and being just one needed it is cost effective aswell. Compatibility with the: X2300 Series and the Z730 Series. So they'll never become obsolete and should be easy to replace and find.
As you all know I'm useless at the technicalities of these sort of things and rarely attempt to write equipment reviews if I can help it, so I shall basically leave you with the website's details to look up, make up your own mind and ponder over... As we have only had the printer a month,I cannot say how reliable it will be but so far we have had no problems at all. I'm also of the genere who firmly believe the simplert the achine the less likelihood of something complicated happening.
This truly seems to be the ideal printer ..basic unpretentious inexpensive simple to operate and at the price we paid I'm satisfied and happy with it. It is also extremely light which is great for me as I have a bad back, and if it does break and we fancy repairing it at least it'll be easy to transport- again-unlike our old Z65 ! As for its' durability I will update in a year's time. So Watch this space!

Product Description Lexmark Z 735 - printer - colour - ink-jet Printer Type Personal printer - ink-jet - colour Dimensions (WxDxH) 37.7 cm x 22.4 cm x 15.2 cm Weight 2.3 kg
Can be bought from Staples Curry's PC World etc etc and other good shops. Must add this came from Pc World without an enclosed instruction Manual- which is just a bit daft eh. The lexmark website should point you in the right direction though! Maybe PC world think this printer is so simple to use that a manual would be lost on me (quite right, too! LOL!) Even dunces like me can manage it without one,you know! :))
Final conclusion? 10/10 so far...definately perfect for technical idiots like me!!
Advantages: Very cheap, Cheap cartridges, Looks Okay! Disadvantages: Black print
...I set eyes upon this Lexmark Z735. In Comet that weekend and this printer happened to be on sale at only £14.99, bargain. It was half price, the usual price was around £29 which still is great value considering the price of some printers on the market today. The Comet staff were great, I will review them later on! Got it home *************
The printer was home and ready to be set up. Opened the box and inside was the printer, power cord and a free ... ...computer and clicked print, the Lexmark wizard popped up and took me through the settings such as paper type and the quality I wanted, this was great and very simple to use while looking like professional software at the same time. Once the set up was complete I pressed print and the printing started. At first the printer did have a bit of trouble sucking the small 4 X 6 paper in but it was nothing that a little push couldn't help. The picture came ...

Advantages: Cheap with decent quality Disadvantages: Slight loss in Black print quality
...reason to use my old Lexmark printer the Z25 model, which has undoubtedly served me extremely well. On trying to print I discovered the Black cartridge to be empty. I, as I have done many times proceeded to refill using one of the proprietary refill kits. On refitting the ink simply splurged everywhere and resulted in one heck of a mess and the need to get a new printer.
I don't print very often, nor do I need a printer with top notch quality, I ... ...of my local ASDA a Lexmark printer on offer for £24.99. I continued shopping giving the printer some serious thought.
Later this afternoon I went ahead with the purchase and how pleased I am. The Z735 is one of the printers form Lexmark that uses its new Number one Cartridge. This means there is no need for two cartridges (A Black and A Colour). Black is achieved by mixing all colours this does however lead to a slight deterioration in the quality ...

Advantages: cheap, reasonable quality print, simple to use Disadvantages: not best quality, expensive short-lasting cartridge
I got this at half price for £19.99! That was cheaper than buying a new cartridge for my Lexmark, so I bought the printer instead.
The printer uses a single cartridge, so print quality depends on what you want to use it for:
Photos - colour, with glossy paper: very good quality results, dark blacks, with only a slight green tinge from the lack of a dedicated balck cartridge.
Photos - black and white - not very good quality - get a printer with ... ...Every day printing on plain paper (which this is mostly used for) - good quality colours, blacks come out slightly faint, with a slight greenish tinge. Sharp, good quality resolution.
Another plus is that with only one cartridge to replace, this is very simple to setup and use. At this price, you really can't complain - however there is one major drawback - the cost of a new cartridge. Lexmark's printers are the cheapest on the market and offer ...

Advantages: 3 in one- Print, Scan, Copy- Also the smallest all in one on the market. Disadvantages: Availability of cheap cartridges isn't brilliant and didn't come with USB Printer Cable.
...the cartridge it takes is Lexmark no. 1. (By the way- if anyone knows anywhere to get them from more cheaply could they drop me a mail- i would be very grateful).
Overall then the printer does seem everything i need at a great price, needless to say there were a couple of hurdles in the way and only time will tell if the item is reliable, durable, affordable to run etc. I will try and keep you posted- As it stands thou i would recommend this item ...

Advantages: one cartridge, good for moderate users Disadvantages: not for photos
Whether or not you buy one of these printers very much depends on what type of user you are. For a particular type of user this is a perfect choice, cheap to buy, meets its needs and cheap to maintain. However other types of users will find it much too simple, limited and, actually, quite expensive to maintain. When I talk about maintain I am, of course talking essentially about ink cartridges.
Appearance wise, it has a simple look about it and ... ...into one of those designed-for-purpose desktop computer desks.
It usually comes at an attractive price. I bought mine for 30 quid at a high street retailer. Although there is a bit of a hidden bite in that it doesn't come with a USB lead, which could put another tenner on it unless you've got a spare hanging around. Having said that, it does come with an ink cartridge, which could cancel that out. It also has, of course, an installation CD which ...
