My cheap printer had finally decided to give up the ghost and I had to buy another cheap one to replace it. So like many people do I picked up the Argos book and began searching online. Now what was I looking for.

The box as usual is oversized and has so much extra cardboard which is just not required but aside that you have the following with the box.
1 - Printer
1- Power cable
1- Weird looking black box which I thought was the cartridge. In fact this is need to power the printer.
1- Cd Installation disc
1- Instruction Setup guide
1- Warranty Card
1- Ink cartridge
**Setting the printer up**
Just as I thought this was very easy, after spending about 5/6 minutes removing all the unnecessary blue tape, I then popped the power lead in and switched on.
Now lift the front flap up and the printer heads will move in to the middle of the printer to allow you to install your print cartridges. This was very easy, a simply push and close the little arm over the cartridge and that's them installed.
*Make sure you remove all the tape from the ink cartridge before installing.
Now to connect the USB cable to your PC or laptop (usb not provided) once you do that all you need to do is pop in the disc that is supplied and follow the simple instructions, after approximately 5 clicks on the next button you will need to accept the terms and conditions. Once that's done you will have the option to print a test page, I would suggest that you do that to ensure that your printer has been installed correctly.
Bingo its installed and the test page has been printed well **The look**
Ok its not the most attractive printer in the world but by far its not the ugliest either, mostly white in colour which a touch of grey gives it a sleek look in my opinion. One button does all here it's a nice silver button and yeah it's the shiny one. Has the logo plastered on the front and the printer number on the top right hand side. You can easily hide cables behind it and
The overall design and look of the printer is that of something is cheap and basic but I sit here and look at it and think what more can I ask for when I paid under £20. Its small in size, its paper feeder and tray underneath all fold away to make the machine take up even less room
Size - Depth 43.1cm - Height 24.7cm and width 24.7cm
10/10 from me
**Capability**
Well according to the specification on the box and Tesco information in store the printer
This can hold 100 sheets of paper - well I tried it and I can get 83 sheets in.
Prints 14 pages in one minute (black) I wrote a review story that was one full page and printed 14 copies, just when the printer started I started the stop watch. Ok not really a minute more like a minute and forty five seconds. But I think that's pretty good going still.
Prints 8 pages in colour in a minute- eh no you don't you can print 8 pages in 2 minutes.
Maximum resolution - 4800dpi
This printer is only compatible with Windows and Mac
I have to say I am delighted with the quality of the printing that this little beauty provides, it's a basic printer that provides fantastic quality. I have printed several letter's and word documents since I bought this and I have always been delighted with the crisp finish. On the other had I tried to print out a small picture and the quality just disappeared, you could easily see all the lines where the printer had been printing. So that's it - I have sold you the Lexmark Z640 printer, here are my final thoughts on this printer. You only get one cartridge which is the black and you need to buy the Colour one on the day to allow you to use the printer to its best capacity. The colour cartridge will set you back a further £19 at most retailers. The fact you are not supplied a USB cable was a pain in the rear too as these things are so cheap, beside the point I got a half decent one from Tesco for £1.66.
Over all I love the quality of the print and it was very easy to install - Maybe the ink cartridge are a little expensive but I will need to look in to getting the cheaper version from leading retailers. I also love the fact that every time I print a sheet Lexmark programme on the laptop shows me how much ink I have left. This is a great feature as without that I would not know I am low on ink until it runs out. The instructions are easy to follow and the trouble shooting guide is also very idiot proof too. Should you be unfortunate enough to lose the CD that you where provided you can download the driver from www.lexmark.co.uk
Finally when you buy a Lexmark printer make sure you hold on to your receipt as the company will provide you with a collection service should you have any problem with it during the first 12mths.
...of searching I found the LEXMARK Z640 which was selling for £25.99 at Comet.
I've been using this printer at home for about a year now and decided it was about time that I wrote a review about it.
**What is it**
The Z640 is a colour thermal inkjet designed for everyday printing needs.
**Appearance**
The printer is quite small in size measuring 404 x 216 x 135 mm and weighing just 4.5kg. The printer is a very light grey colour, with a dark grey ... ...at the front.
There is one large round shaped button on the top which lights up when the printer is switched on. **Specifications**

Advantages: reasonable price Disadvantages: photo printing quality isn't good
...can get it cheaper from lexmark website itself. It is cheaper because they are doing promotion. It is now cost £19.18 for two (including VAT at 17.5%). In other words, it comes in a twin pack. The normal price is £22.56 (Including VAT). However the promotion of 15% off will be due on 24th April 2007. Design
I will not say it is the nicest one. It is not ugly, very plain, not too big (although it could be smaller). It fits well with that price. Conclusion

Advantages: Very very VERY cheap to run, if you know what you are doing. Reasonable quality Disadvantages: No USB cable supplied
Bought for printing out mainly text as I was starting college, upon unboxing I found that there was no black ink cartridge supplied. However, if you scout around amazon, you will find that number 17 and 27 ink cartridges are extremely cheap, so I ordered a no 17 black for around £7. After having done so, the printer was still cheaper than most of the competition.
I now mainly use it for photo printing on glossy 4x6 paper. For this the quality is ... ...of this printer is the refill possibilities. The coloured caps come off the cartridges and they are very easy to refill. I run mine - I kid you not - on food colouring. There is no reason why not, the colours printed are rich and if it ever breaks the print head, the cartridge would have been in the bin long ago so it is no loss (the print head is built in to every cartridge). I have done around 80 4x6 pictures as well as some A4 pictures since buying ...

Advantages: Cheap Printer Disadvantages: Expensive to Run
I was first exposed to Lexmark back in 2000 when i worked for PC World. I was informed that they were used Epson Technology for their printers but i always associated the company with having expensive ink cartirdges at £30!!. Anyway, the company was created in 1991 with the objective of creating printers for both businesses and home use. They were also one of the first companies to offer cheap printers below the £50 mark and i bought this printer ... ...Since Lexmark use Epson technology, I was keen to try it especially as it is was affordable and judging by the dpi(Black: 2400 dpi - x 1200 dpi - Colour: 4800 dpi - x 1200 dpi - USB), it had good quality for the price.
The Lexmark Z 640 printer is basic printer and comes with one colour cartridge which will print both colour and black. It also comes with the manual, printer power cable and the driver installation CD. The look and feel of the printer ...

Advantages: Easy to instal Lightweight Disadvantages: None as yet
I bought this printer to just do a few "printing chores" at work. I was fed up with going into internet cafes to print out schedules, staff photos and profiles, etc., and so I decided to treat us to a printer to link up to my personal laptop, which I bring into work and which everybody tends to use. It is currently on special at Argos for £19.99, so I thought I'd have one, easy to purchase in the manner of all normal Argos walk-in transactions. You ... ...but thats only another couple of quid, and the lady on the till does check to see whether you want to buy one as well. It does, however, come with the power cable (obviously), so you don't have to worry about buying that.
So I got it home, unpacked it, plugged it in to the laptop. It has a weird little box thing that you slot into the power section but which you plug the powerplug into, not difficult to figure out, then I just inserted the USB cable ...
