My cheap printer had finally decided to give up the ghost and I had to buy another cheap one to replace it. So like many people do I picked up the Argos book and began searching online. Now what was I looking for.
Price had to be cheap and when I say cheap I wanted it to be under £20
Manufactory - had to be a name that I knew and was recognised as a printer company
Availability of supplies - had to be able to get cartridges from many outlets
So I researched online and decided to Buy the Lexmark Z640 printer

**I bought it now what's in the box?**
The box as usual is oversized and has so much extra cardboard which is just not required but aside that you have the following with the box.
1- Weird looking black box which I thought was the cartridge. In fact this is need to power the printer.
1- Cd Installation disc
1- Instruction Setup guide
1- Warranty Card
1- Ink cartridge
**Setting the printer up**
Just as I thought this was very easy, after spending about 5/6 minutes removing all the unnecessary blue tape, I then popped the power lead in and switched on.
Now lift the front flap up and the printer heads will move in to the middle of the printer to allow you to install your print cartridges. This was very easy, a simply push and close the little arm over the cartridge and that's them installed.
*Make sure you remove all the tape from the ink cartridge before installing.
Now to connect the USB cable to your PC or laptop (usb not provided) once you do that all you need to do is pop in the disc that is supplied and follow the simple instructions, after approximately 5 clicks on the next button you will need to accept the terms and conditions. Once that's done you will have the option to print a test page, I would suggest that you do that to ensure that your printer has been installed correctly.
Bingo its installed and the test page has been printed well
**The look**
Ok its not the most attractive printer in the world but by far its not the ugliest either, mostly white in colour which a touch of grey gives it a sleek look in my opinion. One button does all here it's a nice silver button and yeah it's the shiny one. Has the logo plastered on the front and the printer number on the top right hand side. You can easily hide cables behind it and
The overall design and look of the printer is that of something is cheap and basic but I sit here and look at it and think what more can I ask for when I paid under £20. Its small in size, its paper feeder and tray underneath all fold away to make the machine take up even less room
Size - Depth 43.1cm - Height 24.7cm and width 24.7cm
10/10 from me
**Capability**
Well according to the specification on the box and Tesco information in store the printer
This can hold 100 sheets of paper - well I tried it and I can get 83 sheets in.
Prints 14 pages in one minute (black) I wrote a review story that was one full page and printed 14 copies, just when the printer started I started the stop watch. Ok not really a minute more like a minute and forty five seconds. But I think that's pretty good going still.
Prints 8 pages in colour in a minute- eh no you don't you can print 8 pages in 2 minutes.
Maximum resolution - 4800dpi
This printer is only compatible with Windows and Mac
I have to say I am delighted with the quality of the printing that this little beauty provides, it's a basic printer that provides fantastic quality. I have printed several letter's and word documents since I bought this and I have always been delighted with the crisp finish. On the other had I tried to print out a small picture and the quality just disappeared, you could easily see all the lines where the printer had been printing. So that's it - I have sold you the Lexmark Z640 printer, here are my final thoughts on this printer. You only get one cartridge which is the black and you need to buy the Colour one on the day to allow you to use the printer to its best capacity. The colour cartridge will set you back a further £19 at most retailers. The fact you are not supplied a USB cable was a pain in the rear too as these things are so cheap, beside the point I got a half decent one from Tesco for £1.66.
Over all I love the quality of the print and it was very easy to install - Maybe the ink cartridge are a little expensive but I will need to look in to getting the cheaper version from leading retailers. I also love the fact that every time I print a sheet Lexmark programme on the laptop shows me how much ink I have left. This is a great feature as without that I would not know I am low on ink until it runs out. The instructions are easy to follow and the trouble shooting guide is also very idiot proof too. Should you be unfortunate enough to lose the CD that you where provided you can download the driver from www.lexmark.co.uk
Finally when you buy a Lexmark printer make sure you hold on to your receipt as the company will provide you with a collection service should you have any problem with it during the first 12mths.
