In my latest opinion, I told you all how my grandson wasn't very well, and all about how we got him some medicine and was told by the doctor to ensure he took plenty of fluids. Well these fluids consisted of all kinds of fruit juices and squashes; but there was one fruit drink that Roy liked in particular, and after tasting them myself, purely in the name of ciao of course, I can understand why, and he now insists that they are bought everyday.

~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT ARE THEY
~~~~~~~~~~
Well they are called Libby’s The Original Um Bongo, and in this particular pack there are three cartons of the juice, they are about the same size as a carton of Ribena juice drink, and are made up of nine different fruits.

~~~~
TASTE
~~~~
They are, as stated on the box, made up of a
CONGO-coction of nine different fruits, and each carton has the list of fruits that are in them. On first sipping this drink you can instantly taste the fruits together, and it really is the kind that makes you want another sip and then another. Out of all the fruits included, the one that hit my taste buds the most strongly is the Apricot, you can still taste a mixture of the other fruits, but this one seems more domineering.

~~~~~~~~~~
PRESENTATION
~~~~~~~~~~
The three cartons come enclosed in a brightly coloured outer sleeve that is very brightly covered in all the jungle animals with trees in the background and juice bursting fruit, with the bluest of skies there too. On this packet there is a purple animated crocodile with his mouth open wide and the words Um Bongo entered into it, the on the other side of this word is a pink monkey trying to take it away from the crocodile. It also has the word original written in white on a palm leaf above their heads.

The three cartons themselves are very similar in design, they each have a different animated animal on the back and front with the word um bongo surrounded by the fruits of the jungle and the palm leaves. But the difference with these pictures is that the fruit is being thrown at the animal that is trying to take the word um bongo away. Each drink has a straw placed across the centre like most cartons of pop, but each carton has a different coloured straw which I thought was quite sweet.

NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION

Per Carton
Energy kj 437
Kcal 102
Protein 0.25g
Carbohydrate 24.5g
Fat, Trace
Vitamin C 75mg
R.D.A. 125%.

Each carton holds 250ml's, and to me this is just enough to calm a thirst, they are moreish and you could easily drink the three straight away, but I would advise otherwise as will all fruit juice you don’t really want to spend the next day on the toilet?

It costs £1.00 for this pack of three and I do think it is value for money, as not only can you use them for making sure you get your quota of fluids each day but also for the kids packed lunch's at school or when your out for the day on a trip they are handy to have and not at all heavy to carry around.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE FRUITS INCLUDED IN THE JUICE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Apple Lemon
Orange Mandarin
Pineapple Passion fruit
Apricot Guava
Mango.

They really are in my opinion an addictive fruit drink and I am glad that Roy has taken a liking to these as they have not just fruit but vitamins too.

They are made by Libby’s Gerber foods soft drinks. They explain that they are committed to providing quality products

I really do recommend this juice drink to all not just the kids, cold or no cold.

Thanks for reading, Pat

    This stuff got me and my room-mate through summer school last year, and not just because of the taste. The carton pointed out that Bongo spelt backwards is Ognob, which we in our infinite wisdom (it was 100 degrees outside, okay?!) found hysterically funny (you try translating Greek prose for six hours a day for two weeks withou losing a few screws) and decided was a good way to tell blokes that their chat-up lines weren't working... "Um, OGNOB!"
