Advantages: marks easy to remove fron smooty surfaces Disadvantages: some marks do not wash off
I noticed that no one else has written about crayola washable crayons and thought I would be able to tell you about these crayons.
In New York in 1899 Edward Binney and his cousin C Harold Smith owned a factory that made shoe polish and printing ink. They produced slate pencils for schools. In 1902 they had developed a non toxic colourful crayon and crayola crayons were born. A box of 8 coloured crayons cost 1 nickel.
I am sure a lot of you will have used crayola crayons. The washable crayons are very similar to the wax crayons I used as a child. I am not sure if they were washable then. If your child is over zealous in their crayoning and marks the table or the wall you can clean the crayon of by rubbing with a wet soapy cloth, this is usually successful and marks are removed. The marks do not come off a porous surface ...
Advantages: Good quality, easy to hold Disadvantages: None for young children
Chubbi Stumps
Working with young children, I tend to buy these crayons in the big packs of 40 crayons or the smaller packs of 8 crayons, so that they can have a pack each and keep their own colours (doesn't always work that way!).
My latest buy has been several packets of the 8 crayon packs. These come in a cardboard box, with a lift off lid. Not the most practical thing for small fingers, and sure to rip, so we take the crayons out and keep thim in small plastic pots.
The crayons themselves are 8 different colours- black, brown, purple, green , blue, red, orange and yellow. Each crayon is about 8cm long, and as the name suggests, is chubbier than the normal crayons. They also thankfully don't have all of that paper wrapped round them which has to be removed as the crayons get shorter or snapped. These are far more practical ...
Advantages: Easy to use - Good Results Disadvantages: Hard To Find
I discovered aquacolor crayons when doing my evening art class last year. There nestled in the box of materials was this tin of crayons which, as every other inconsiderate swine had nabbed all the 'good stuff' I found I was left with. As it turns out it was the turning point of my artistry usage. (Ooh get me!)
I haven't done any art work since I left school about 13 years ago, where does the time go? I started feeling a huge loss of identity when I had my children but it came to a head last year when I erupted, chasing all my loved ones screaming for the hills and I found myself hastily enrolled in an art class to 'channel my creative fury'. Apparently it didn't work, I still stomp around wailing and ripping my hair out but it did resurrect my love of art.
I like big colourful images but it has to be dark, solid and vivid. I can ...
