Buildings Insurance Advantages: Easy to set up Disadvantages: very very poor customer service when you need them most ...insurance for several years with axa - it was more expense but I had a number of other insurance policies with them (life ete). Never claimed - but this winter had a burst pipe during the cold spell. Insurance detailed that I would be covered for pipes damaged as a result of freezing. Thought I would be okay, contacted Axa and was made to feel like an insurance fraudster -cross examined for 40 minutes (worse than facing a barrister), told it wasn't ... ...you wish to make a claim. Life and Critical Illness policy Advantages: An excellent level of cover provided. Disadvantages: Completing the very detailed health questionaire...can't be helped though! I have just taken out a combined life and critical illness policy to support my mortgage and am very pleased to say I am paying a very reasonable monthly premium and receiving excellent comprehensive cover from what I personally feel is one of the best products on the market. I have the confidence that if myself or my partner is unfortunate enough to be suffer a critical illness or god forbid the worse happens, a non decreasing tax free lump sum ... GRE Homebuilder Advantages: None Disadvantages: Very poor return and cavalier attitude In 1983 I signed up for a GRE Homebuilder plan which was meant to yield at least £16000 in 2008. Several years ago I received a shortfall letter indicating that the scheme would miss its target by about £5000. To add insult to injury I was advised to increase my monthly payments by at least five times the original premium. I made a complaint in writing in which I compared the Homebuilder plan with an endowment plan from another company which was ... ...for complaint or compensation. Needless to say not wanting to throw good money after bad I did not take their advice but opted to make extra payments on my mortgage instead. I cannot recommend GRE to anyone because of their poor returns and cavalier attitude. I understand that one complaint only is allowed and I have had my chance of compensation apparently. Budget insurance rip off merchants Advantages: None Disadvantages: Everything Dont touch this company. My dad took out house insurance with them, he was paying them monthly through his bank about 8months into the premium he cancelled due to finacial problems. He had payed them about £170 up to this point and not made any claims. He then started recieving letters from them saying he he had to pay a £82 cancellation fee. We contacted them they said it must be payed as its in the small print. My dad is a old age pensioner disabled ... ...the box on the online application. They then started sending threatning letters from a debt collecting agency. They sent sent another letter yesterday saying the agency are calling at his house he is worried sick. They are bullies. Doing the right thing at the end of the day. Advantages: The site and policy is easily understood. Disadvantages: Far too much waste of paper ! ...can vary and on the Co-Operative website I found out that they sell packages, the packages start off with a basic funeral and they rise right up to the most elaborate send off, but unless you send off for a brochure you are unable to ascertain the actual prices of the plans. But I have looked on the Internet and I have read that an average funeral costs around £3,500 plus and as time goes by the prices will climb even higher.
