Life Venture Collapsible Bucket

First impressions

If you spend a lot of time camping then you will probably have a whole host of gadgets that you wouldn’t normally use at home. Space is usually at a premium when you are camping, unless you have a large motorhome or caravan, and even then you will not want clutter taking up space. You might not find the need for a bucket to carry water in, but there are a number of not very practical water transportation systems out there, many of which are bulky. What we have here is another LifeVenture product, and this particular brand has a habit of designing a product that is both practical and affordable.

The LfeVenture Collapsible Bucket does exactly what it says on the storage sack. It is a bucket that can be rolled up and stored away like a sleeping bag, and it takes up very little space. You might wonder why you would want to carry water in a carrier bag when you can use one of those large barrels that can be rolled over the campsite, but once you get used to using this bucket you will wonder why you ever doubted its practicalities

My experience

You will find that the bucket comes in a rather humble but durable looking bag. The fabric bucket can be rolled or folded, but once it is filled with water (up to 15 litres of the clear stuff) then it becomes rigid and holds its shape very well for carrying. The waterproof material holds water surprisingly well, and the 2 strong handles are reassuringly robust. The large capacity could have you staggering across the campsite, but as long as you avoid the guy ropes you will be fine!

The nylon grab handles are not going anywhere, and I was surprised at just how stable it is to carry. Unlike a plastic bucket, the water will not swish around so much when not completely, full, with less rigidity than the plastic alternative.

Taking good care of the sack is important, but so long as you don’t leave it near sharp objects you will be fine. I think this is why the sack is included, and we always back the collapsible bucket away when we are not using it.

There are many alternatives, but the fact they are plastic makes them rather bulky, and this sack requires a little more tlc, but it takes up a fraction of the space of the smaller capacity alternatives. All you have to think about is that the bucket is not useful as a storage vessel, and the water is just to be carried and then emptied at the end of your trip. This is a small inconvenience in most instances, but is worth mentioning.

The nylon straps run all the way to the bottom of the bucket, and this distributes the weight and this is a bucket well worth considering over a black plastic bucket, even for around the garden if you are watering plants etc.

Price and availability

The 15 litre collapsible bucket from LifeVenture is available for just £10-£15 online, depending on who you purchase from. You might think this is expensive for a bucket, but this isn’t just a cheap plastic bucket you would use to wash the car with. I think this price is fair, and it isn’t worth trawling through Gumtree etc. for a used one.

Final thoughts

Overall this collapsible bucket has come in very handy, both away from home and in our garden. The fact it is collapsible makes it ideal for use on your travels, and where space and weight is at a premium it is a worthwhile investment. Take care of this bucket as you would an ordinary plastic bucket and it will not leak or break in any way. The handle of a plastic bucket is more likely to snap than the straps on this one, and if anything I would say this is a better solution even when you are at home. This product comes highly recommended by myself, and if you are backpacking and feel the need for a bucket then this could be the one for you.
