Trauma, Treachery and Teen Love
Advantages: well written; fast-paced; convincing characters; interesting issues Disadvantages: slightly weak ending
The novel opens, like its predecessor "Checkmate", with a shocking scene which leaves the central character teetering on the edge of an almost unthinkable act. Tobey Durbridge has reached a position in which the choice appears horrifically straightforward: kill or be killed. This is a dramatic opening that effectively catapults you into the action and suggests the key motivating force of this novel: rage.
After this prologue, the action moves back ... ...The contrast between the violence of the prologue and the almost banal teen-asks-teen on date situation outlined in the first chapter emphasises the distance Tobey has travelled over those six weeks. Teenagers everywhere will surely empathise with the realistically drawn social situations Blackman depicts, in which the two main characters obsess over each other's relationships and get frustrated with each other's lack of perception.
The first part ...

The Mother Of All Baby Books!
Advantages: PACKED with ideas from newborn to 12 months, inexpensive, confidence-builder for the parent Disadvantages: none at all.
WHAT an amazing book! As a first time mother I was unfortunate to discover this book when my child was 7 months old and I seriously wish I had known about it when he was born. The book talks about "The Golden Hour", an hour of focus on 5 main points of development and some one-on-one time with your baby. The points include: Talking, Moving, Hands, Mind, Friendliness. There is a picture of a clock and suggested times and activities of things to do ... ...set out in the front of the book. I bought my copy at £5.99 and I would have paid double that for it. It is easy to read and doesn't sound patronising as a lot of baby books do. If you are pregnant or knows someone who is, then this book is invaluable. ...

A brilliant recipe book!
Advantages: useful, interesting Disadvantages: none!
This book was bought from mothercare and was a brilliant buy.
Inside the book is split into different chapters depending upon your babies stage of feeding.
The first chapter is an introduction to what your baby should be eating and what they should be avoiding. There is advice about obesity, the effects of different foods and ways in which food can be prepared.
The next chapters offer interesting and easy recipes for your baby/toddler and eventually ... ...a similar nature is that this book makes everything very easy. It shows exactly how to make the meals and in a very straight forward way. Somtimes when I look at recipe books I feel intimidated by the amount of complicated steps but not this book!
This book has some brilliant recipes. My daughter is 7 and she loves t ohelp me make them now and she can do as it's very easy for her and the page is set out nice and colourfully so she is very interested ...

Easy to use book for those who like fossils
Advantages: clear descriptions, easy to use Disadvantages: none
As I am a bit of a geek, and enjoy anything to do with fossils, I decided to get this book. After spending a while looking at various different books on the subject, I decided on this one as it has lovely clear pictures and clear descriptions on many different fossils. There is an introductory section in the book that includes things like:-
+geological time chart
+where to look for fossils, and then collecting them
+how the book works
The introductory ... ...any idea where to look for fossils before looking in this book. In the main section of the book the different types of fossils are split into three main sections-invertebrates, vertebrates and then plants. These are then split into further sections of particular groups of plants and animals. I think that the way these sections are split up make it really easy to use. For the amateur fossil hunter, with this book, you can pritty much find out what ...
