Beanz Meanz Heinz
Advantages: Interesting, some tasty recipes Disadvantages: None
The Heinz Beanz Book: The Heinz Beanz book is published by Hamlyn and written by David Morgan and Cara Frost-Sharratt and is full of interesting information on the Iconic bean! The book is the colour of the label of a tin of Heinz beans and features the now iconic label. It looks good in a graphic design way and makes for an attractive coffee table book or something interesting to leave in the loo for a little read now and then. It’s not a huge book ... ...and about two thirds of the height. It has 64 pages so it isn’t a long read but an interesting on none the less. The book contains history, trivia and recipes and it gives a great insight into how the humble dish of beans in tomato sauce has secured it’s place as an important part of our social history. The recipes contained are all reasonable simple and cheap to make but some are a little surprising like bean and 3 cheese ravioli and even bean and ...

Attachment Parenting: an alternative to Gina
Advantages: Interesting ideas without trying to foce opinions on you Disadvantages: Managed to make a breastfeeder feel guilty by going on about it so much
...book explores the theory of attachment parenting. This means listening to your baby to try and understand and meet their needs, rather than training them to exist in a routine laid out in some guru's book (mentioning no names, Gina!). It covers topics such as breastfeeding, weaning, breastfeeding, sleeping, breastfeeding, working, baby wearing and breastfeeding. Yes, there is a lot in this book about breastfeeding although this is actually all in ... ...I am not actually an attachment parent, although I do vaguely follow some of the principles. Having read the plethora of books that I have I can say with some confidence that I don't fit into any category of parent but takes bits from everything and for me that was one big advantage of this book. Unlike many of the others that I've read it did not contain lots of scare stories about what damage you will do to your baby and your life if you don't ...

~»º General º«~ Overcoming Overeating is an informative self-help book written by Jane Hirschmann and Carol Munter in 1988. Subtitled "conquer your obsession with food", this book aims to break down the issues surrounding problematic eating and looks at how you can help free yourself from them. These women are both psychotherapists in New York who have been working with people on their compulsive eating for over 25 years so they have a lot of experience ... ...Although it's entitled Overcoming Overeating, that's not to say you must be an overeater to find this book useful. Hirschmann and Munter explore several issues with food and weight which are applicable to modern views on body size, what/when/how much to eat, dieting etc. It doesn't just skim the surface, it's delves deep into the reasons behind behaviours and thoughts and challenges the reader to do the same. For anyone that struggles with their ...

Let Aunty Gok lend a hand
Advantages: interesting, informative, helpful, attractive, cheap Disadvantages: /
...before long I was loving How To Look Good Naked, surprisingly as much as my Mam. Having then confessed this to her, I found she was throwing a book in my direction - Gok Wan's How to Dress. I'd read Trinny and Susannah's What Not To Wear a few years back, though found it rather dull. However I had a feeling that this one was going to be a bit more exciting. For one thing the cover was incredibly stunning. There is an image of a grinning Gok on the ... ...It talks about layering and how to get that perfect look with the help of flawless make up. Each section is fantastic, and provides you will tips for any occasion. The one thing I like best about it is the fact that it doesn't seem to date. The book was released in March 2009, and now at the end of the year you would think the fashion styles would differ yet I find that the tips Gok is offering still apply months later, and will do for years. It ...

The Grapes of Wrath
Advantages: One or two useful bits, visually very attractive Disadvantages: Not in depth enough, annoying "hip" language
Every Christmas now, one of our stocking fillers to ourselves is Matt Skinner's Wine Guide for the forthcoming year. It's a handy-sized little book that we can pop into a coat pocket or handbag whenever we go somewhere different in the UK, in the hope that we might be able to pick up a bottle or two of one of Skinner's recommendations from wine merchants that don't have stores in our area. Skinner first came to my attention a couple of years back ... ...Saturday Kitchen; I liked his laid back youthful approach to wine and I felt he took some of the mystery out of the subject. I'd been promising to buy his first wine book, "Thirsty Work" for ages and then a copy unexpectedly came my way. "Thirsty Work" is a fairly general book that supposedly celebrates wine, the making of wine and those who drink it. At the time it was published, Skinner was working as sommelier at Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" and the ...
