Not bad if you are a good cook to begin with

Advantages: Good variety if you are adventurous
Disadvantages: Cooks with a lot of veal

...two sections, the first being Easy Tasty Know-How and the second being The Elemental Recipes. There are quite a lot of funky/retro photographs in the book which makes it quite unique and this book also gives you quite a lot of information prior to cooking. It tells you the sort of cooking equipment you need and what is in a typical Italian larder. This was the first point that I thought this book wasn't for me. Quite a lot of the things listed were ...
...my larder' (it may help if I had a larder but you know what I mean). There was also a detailed section on the basics such as basic sauces, rubs and marinades. This section in particular was very helpful. There were a wide variety and types of recipe. However (here was the sticking point for me), quite a lot of these meals take a lot of time and preparation. I also found that in a few of the recipes I had no clue what some of the ingredients were, ...

Great way for kids (big and small) to get into cooking!

Advantages: Clear easy to follow instructions, tasty recipes
Disadvantages: None

My mum bought this book for my younger sister when it was first published, around 10 years ago to encourage her to take an interest in cooking. My sister has always been a fussy eater (particularly about tomatoes - no ketchup, no pizza - weird I know!) and my mum thought if she made something herself she wouldn't turn her nose up at it. I don't know how much my mum paid for it back then but it is now priced around 7.99 on Amazon. The book itself ...
...hard back cover and has about 30 pages. On the cover are pictures of the kinds of things that you can make with the recipes in the book. All the pictures on the cover and in the book itself are life-sized, which is why the book is so big! Inside the book each double-page spread has a recipe on it. Each recipe has a list of ingredients, as you would expect, except that they are pictorially represented. For example, if to make a cake you need 3 eggs, ...

Student nosh

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...quite enjoyed creating some decent nosh for ourselves! The book contains sections on: * Introduction and general information * Basics * Soups * Sausages * Meats * Fun foods * Chicken * Vegetarian * Fish * Salads * Desserts and cakes * Shopping lists * Index Introduction In the introduction section there is great information about the utensils you will need to be able to make the recipes in the book. What is fantastic about this ...
...that only need limited utensils which is just what students need. Not all students have food processors or electornic mixers. I think the most technical item of the entire list was a cheese grater! There are also cooking rules. At first I thought how frustrating seeing a rules section! You leave home to do what you want and have fun but then I saw that the first rule was just that- to have fun! It explains how the recipes are set out too- those with ...

A cook book for students

Advantages: easy to read
Disadvantages: not appealing

...would suddenly turn me into the next Deliah Smith or something but it didn't really have this effect on me at all! I didn't really use it and it was a good job it was quite a cheap buy so I didn't feel guilty for the fact it sat on my book shelf, hidden by all the huge text books I had to buy! Who is it for? This book is really very obviously aimed at students as you can tell by the title; "The New Students' Cook Book". When I first saw ...
...cook something instead of order the usual pizza I didn't want to spend hours reading a recipe or fiddling around in the kitchen. This, isn't exactly what the book is about, it is more aimed at students who would like to cook. I think the fact it says 'for students' means that it's for people who may not know the basics of cooking and want standard meals instead of fancy cooking. The book The book is split into sections which try to make ...

I learnt to cook in 24 hours

Advantages: Easy to follow, bullet points, pictures useful and informative
Disadvantages: The random rubbish bits about pledges

...trying different reciepes I found Jamie's Ministry of Food- Anyone can learn to cook in 24 hours. I have never watched any of Jamie Oliver's TV series and apparently the book is based on a trip "Up-North" where Jamie Oliver teaches people how to cook??? Correct me if I'm wrong here. So the book itself....... --CONTENT-- Well there's some strange bit in the introduction about Jamie wanting you to pass on a reciepe when you've tried it out. Well ...
...is all about and what Jamie's plan is. The final page of the introduction there is a "pass it on pledge" where for some reason they want you to de-face your book by signing it to say you will pass a reciepe on. Well let's face it how many people are going to scribble in a book??? According to Jamie there are approximately 30 items that are deemed essential for your kitchen kit but when you read throught these things they do seem pretty reasonable. ...
