Advantages: Sound Quality, Affordable Disadvantages: Lack of Remote Control
...Being interested in good quality audio but never really owning a good quality system myself, i decided to splash out on my very own system.
I went along to my local Richer Sounds looking for a CD player, speakers and Amp. I was looking to spend between £300-400, the cambridge audio equipment came highly recomended.
When I got it home the A5 amp sounded brilliant. Having the amp makes a real difference to the sound quality, when compared to a normal hi-fi unit. For around £120 you get an amp of a more than decent standard at a pretty low price.
All controls on the front are easy to use, bass, treble, volume, mode select etc. The traditional inputs are available, CD, tuner, tape, phono, minidisc. Additionally I could plug my ps2 and dvd player into it as well, allowing terrific sound output from them as well.
Overall great performance...

Advantages: real hi-fi sound ! Disadvantages: not much for the money!
...I have owned this amp now for about 18 months and i still enjoy listening to music through it , i have the amp connected to a pair of quad 11L speakers a cambridge audio cd and digitail tuner and a project turntable.
The ROTEL RA-01 is a intergrated amp with five inputs including a mm phono input for turntable
Tone controls bass and treble , with a tone defeat switch (switches the bass and treble off keeping the sound as close to the original as possible).
Two pairs of speakers can be connected with switching between the pairs or both pairs of speakers on at the same time.(4 in total)
Power handling is 2 x 40 watts ,8 ohms , don't be put of by what seems to be a low power rating this amp will go far louder than you can imagine , how loud a hi fi can go is down to the sensitivity of the speakers (i.e how easy they can be driven...

Advantages: Good all round HiFi and cinema amp Disadvantages: fiddly to set up
...I have been using a Denon AVR3300 Receiver now for 4 months as the heart of my home cinema system and have found it a great performer. The sound is very comparable to my old Technics HiFi amp, even with pure CD Audio.
The Amp has plenty of power, good frequency range and seems to suit my TDL floorstanding speakers. I use a B&W centre speaker and Paradigm sub. AR-8 rears make up the full complement.
Only niggles are:
- Complex programming
- No digital out
- Could do with 2 more video in sockets
- Poor remote control (ugly)
For £600 (if you shop around) I think it is a good value amp for the quality and performance....

I've had these speakers for three weeks now, and I am very very impressed. Out of the box, I'm not sure why but you just know that these speakers are very nice bits of kit, there is an awe about them. You have three choices of finish black, cherry or... more
