Linda McCartney's vegetarian lasagne is made up of layers of free range egg pasta with soya mince ragu and rich béchamel sauce topped with cheddar cheese. Now, even I realise that this doesn't sound quite as nice as a meaty lasagne but it really does taste it.

I don't eat red meat but I love things like spaghetti bolognese and lasagne which I occasionally can't resist, despite them containing meat. Because of this, I try to stick to vegetarian versions with veggie mince and Linda McCartney food is perfect for this.

It comes in a cardboard box with a very delicious looking picture of the lasagne on the front. Inside, it comes in a plastic pot and can be cooked either in the microwave, taking 10 minutes, or in the oven, which takes a lot longer at 45 minutes. I always cook mine in the microwave as it is much quicker but I then like to crisp it up slightly in the oven for a few minutes after. The lasagne is made up of 3 layers of pasta with veggie mince and sauce in between each layer and then coated with cheese on top. The pasta is always very soft but, when I've tried putting it in the grill to crisp it up, this turns the bottom layer very hard and overly crispy so I don't recommended even just quickly crisping it up under the grill. For anyone who doesn't like the thought of eating 'fake' meat, I can honestly say that the mince tastes exactly the same as normal meaty mince. Between this and a meaty lasagne I cannot tell the difference at all apart from the fact that, in this one, you don't get the odd chewy bits of meat, so the vegetarian version is actually better. The mince is mixed with a slightly spicy tomato sauce and on top is the béchamel sauce which is a white creamy cheesy sauce. The two sauces add a lot of yummy tastes to the pasta and gives it a more moist texture. The cheese makes a delicious crispy topping and mixes brilliantly with the creamy béchamel sauce.
The 360g individual lasagne contains 450 calories, 20g of fat and free range egg pasta, and is free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. It can be found in the freezer section in supermarkets, usually costing £1.90 which I do think is pretty expensive so I only pick them up when they're on offer, usually for £1, or buy 2 for a certain amount, which is much better value.
This is the most delicious lasagne I've tried, much tastier than the meaty ones, that both meat and non-meat lovers will enjoy. With beans or garlic bread added to it, this makes a perfect and tasty main meal.
Advantages: Nice vegetarian alternative Disadvantages: Portion size inadequite
As a vegetarian, I'm always on the look out for new ready meals that I can actually eat. And let me tell you, its slim pickings. There are 101 different types of veggie lasagnes, none of which taste vastly different to the next, but aside from these, there is little else.
There is no denying that this lasagne is tasty, but the size leaves something to be desired. This lasagne is 345g, which I have noticed is about the average size for a childs size ... ...feel hungry, which isn't something I expect from a product branded as a main meal. A hungry adult would require 2 of these to feel satisfied, which I dont feel is satisfactory.
The 'meat' sauce is made with soya protein, which to some extent does absorb the flavour of the tomato sauce, but could do with some bulking out. There is no vegetable content in the sauce, which I disagree with, especially as it is made for vegetarians. If the sauce was ...

Advantages: Yum and veggie friendly too. Disadvantages: Really more-ish, it could be bigger.
When i became vegetarian, I thought I would be stuck with a really boring diet and no variety. But thanks to LindaMcCartney, I was proven wrong. Not only is there Lasagne, but also other typical "carnivor" meals such as Shepherds Pie, Chilli, sausage rolls, curry, pasta carbonara....the list goes on.
But i must say that the lasagne is a favourite. Not only of mine, but also of my sister - who isn't even a vegetarian! It is best cooked in the oven, and I love the crisp cheese top layer that forms if you leave it in just a little longer than the recommended time. Unlinke other pasta meals, the pasta does not go crunchy or chewy in the oven and it retains its form too. The layers of pasta are concealing a lovely mixture of vegetarian mince, rich tomato sauce and a good selection of vegetables.
It has a really authentic Italian taste ...
