As broadband speeds increase most 10/100 gateways do not have the power to support those higher data rates, and thus become the bottleneck in the network. The RVS4000 10/100/1000 4-Port VPN Router works at Gigabit speeds to meet the demands of today's networks. It features Linksys' proven SPI Firewall with an integrated Intrusion Detection and Prevent System (IDS/IPS). Its built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch can connect up four PCs directly, or additional hubs and switches. The QoS features provide consistent voice and video quality throughout your business. In addition, the RVS4000 features a Virtual Private Network (VPN) security engine that creates encrypted "IPSec tunnels" through the Internet. The IPSec VPN tunnels enable remote users from at home, or on the road to easily, and securely connect to the office network through a typical wired or wireless broadband connection. When used with another RVS4000 or other Linksys VPN router, "branch-to-branch" connections can be established allowing users in a remote office to connect to the corporate network.

Instructions supplied are brief but in truth that's all that's needed and on the enclosed CD is a more substantial manual in PDF format. A trial of anti-virus software was also included.
Apart from what's supplied you are going to need some method of connecting up your client computers - newer PC's and laptop's are likely to have either a built in network or wireless card but if not you are going to need one. Note that many suppliers offer some sort of WiFi bundle with this model where you get a device for your PC/laptop also.
At this point I should point out the quick visual differences compared with the NetGear.

There has been reports on various Linksys support sites like http://www.linksysinfo.org and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wrv54g of stability problems on wireless and LAN, but I didn't experience any. Although this product has been released, Linksys has been producing various Beta releases of the firmware to cope with some of the problems, but it gives the impression that this product wasn't yet suitable for public release.
The packaging does states that the router can be used to connect 50 remote or travelling users, this is where the problems come in. The problem is that this router doesn't provide NAT transversal support. ...The last review was very good but I thought I would give one more about the product itself.
After purchasing a laptop it became apparent that I wouldnt want to run a cable from my broadband box to my laptop in order to use the internet especially when this is already plugged into my PC. The next logical step? By a wireless router and i'm assuming that if your are reading this then you will either be in this position or just cant be bothered with having cables all around your house anymore.
As the title says this is a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Access Point Router with 4-Port Switch. Fore this router to work you need to make sure that your broadband has an ETHERNET port otherwise you will need to find another router as you plug your broadband into this router via an ethernet cable in order for it to be able to send out the signal...

This product is fantastic. I had no problems setting it up. Instant connection, has 1 wan port, 4 lan ports, 3 wireless aerials, and a power input. It has a massive range even through walls. My connection isnt fast enough to eve get close to the 100+ mbs more
