We bought one of these through work to handle our company 2mb ADSL connection.
As with all linksys units this is well made and behaves nicely. the 4 port switch is as fast as it's supposed to be.
The setup is as hard as you want to make it. there are lots and lots of screens that can be used to tune your internet experience down to fine details, it contains URL blocking, IP, MAC and bad word filtering and you can set it to only allow specific computers to access the net - as if the unit wants to be a proxy server when it grows up.
We selected this router specifically because we were looking long term at getting an SDsl connection when it became available and this router is one of very few which will handle that technology (sdsl has the same incoming and out going available bandwidth, rather than adsl which has more incoming bandwidth than outgoing) This particular unit can handle connection up to 25mbps each way - you saw right twenty five mega bits per second. thats crazy! we think our connection is quick with 2mbps!
the diagnostic lights on the front leave a little to be desired although they are basically functional, they are on when connected, blinking when active. It would have been better for linksys to use the multicolor LEDs they use on the befsr range of routers which are green when operating normally, ornage when starting up and red (solid or blinking) when theres a problem.
so far in 3 months we've had to restart the router once, and it gets hammered 24/7 by browsing, automated FTP, and email and it just takes it all! It does get quite warm when working hard, but nowhere near as hot as our old BT router used to!
It also has a useful DMZ function, (de militarized zone, which is not subject to any of the units firewall capabilities. this exposes computers in the DMZ to access from outside. which is necessary for some types of server) which can separate 1,2 or 3 of the 4 ports on the back as DMZ(s) to accomodate mailservers, game servers and webservers. we have a corporate firewall behind ours which deals with that, but it's a usefull thing to be able to do.
I'm impressed with this boxs stability and futureproofness, the only thing is, because it's only a few months old it's still pretty pricey, around the £60 mark, but i think it's probably worth it if you intend to keep it for a long time!

Hi good review, but you might just want to add how much it cost, and explain some of the jargon, DMZ etc.. I'll admit you can't beat the Linksys products. Larry
